Product description
A blue glass bottle with a capacity of 15 ml and a black lotion pump is intended for filling small amounts of creams, facial emulsions and thicker serums that should be dispensed little by little, without fingers touching the contents. The small volume makes sense for eye creams, trial samples, travel packs, or products made in small batches and used up quickly.
The pump is fitted to the 18 mm neck of the bottle and the set is supplied as a ready-made combination. Simply take it apart, prepare it for filling and fill it.
What it is suitable for
- Creams and emulsions – facial, eye and hand creams of medium thickness, which the pump draws up and dispenses in a measured dose.
- Thicker serums and gels – products that would run out of a dropper too quickly, but can be dispensed in a controlled way through a pump.
- Samples and testers – 15 ml is enough for trying out a new formulation over several weeks, without leaving a lot of unused product.
- Light-sensitive formulations – blue glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which helps with creams containing vegetable oils, vitamins or essential oils.
How the pump works
One press dispenses approximately 0.12 ml of product. The contents are drawn up by a dip tube from the bottom, so the bottle stays closed during use and the cream is not needlessly exposed to air or hands. The clear overcap protects the head from dust and accidental pressing during transport.
The lotion pump is designed for slow-flowing products. Very liquid toners or hydrosols can be dispensed with it, but when the bottle is tilted they may drip from the head. With very firm balms or butters, on the other hand, the pump may fail to draw up the contents. Check how your particular formulation behaves on one filled bottle before filling the whole batch.
The dip tube of the pump is supplied in a length intended for taller bottles. If it is too long for the bottle once fitted, shorten it with a sharp knife using a diagonal cut, so that it ends just above the bottom of the bottle. A diagonal cut prevents the end of the tube from sticking to the bottom and stopping the pump from drawing up product.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume of 15 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for with normal filling. The brimful capacity stated in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them forms a reserve for the tube and the body of the pump, which take up part of the space once fitted, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If overfilled, the cream is pushed out through the thread when the pump is screwed on.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump with clean water or alcohol and leave it to drain. Water left in the tube would get into the first doses of product, which is a risk you do not want to take with creams without a preservative.
Do not fill the bottle with hot product straight from the pot. Let the emulsion cool first to a temperature at which the container can already be touched safely, so that the glass does not suffer a sudden thermal shock. The polypropylene pump tolerates common cosmetic raw materials. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, check compatibility in advance on one piece.
The plastic lotion pump has a declaration of suitability for use with cosmetic products. No such declaration is available for the glass bottle, and the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food.
Once the bottle is empty, the pump is not self-cleaning. Before refilling with a different formulation, take it apart, pump warm water with a drop of surfactant through it several times, then clean water and alcohol, and leave it to dry. Residues of the old cream in the tube could spoil the new batch.
Both the bottle and the pump can be reused. For recycling, glass goes with glass and the polypropylene pump with plastics, so the set is taken apart before disposal.
