Product description

The blue glass bottle with a black spray mister 50 ml is a ready-made set for filling facial mists, toners and hydrosols. Once filled, it can be used straight away. Blue glass reduces the light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate with hydrosols, aqueous solutions of active ingredients and perfume waters, which lose their scent or colour faster in light. The black mister disperses the contents into a fine mist, so the product is applied evenly and without touching it with your fingers. The set as a whole, both the bottle and the mister, is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

Why choose this set

  • Protection from light – blue glass lets through less light than clear glass and helps slow down changes in scent and colour with light-sensitive contents. It does not protect as thoroughly as amber glass, but for ordinary toners and mists it is sufficient.
  • Touch-free dispensing – the contents are applied by spraying, nothing from the skin or fingers gets back into the bottle. This reduces the risk of microbial contamination of the filling.
  • Does not react with the contents – glass is chemically inert, it does not absorb fragrances or dyes. It is also suitable for contents containing alcohol or essential oils, with which a plastic bottle could soften or go cloudy over time.
  • Practical size – 50 ml is enough for a trial batch, a sample for a customer or a product to carry in your handbag. In your own production it means smaller batches and a shorter time during which the contents have to remain stable.

What the set is suitable for

The mister works best with thin water-based and alcohol-based contents. Typical uses:

  • facial mists and toners based on hydrosol or water with active ingredients,
  • hydrosols and floral waters on their own,
  • perfume waters and body sprays with an alcohol base,
  • hair sprays without thickeners,
  • textile and air fresheners in small packaging.

It is not suitable for oils, gels, emulsions or thick solutions. If you want to package a facial oil, choose a bottle with a dropper or a pump.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for in normal filling, and the set is labelled according to it. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference forms a reserve for the mister's dip tube, which takes up part of the space once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. It is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle will overflow once the mister is fitted and the contents will get onto the thread, where they can dry out and prevent a proper seal.

After being fitted to a new filling, the mister does not spray straight away. The dip tube is empty at first and needs to be primed with a few empty pumps until a continuous mist appears. This is normal behaviour, not a fault.

Working with the mister

The mister's dip tube reaches all the way to the bottom of the bottle, so almost all the contents can be used up. When spraying, hold the bottle upright or only slightly tilted. If it is tilted sharply or turned upside down, the dip tube draws in air and the mister stops dispensing until the bottle is returned to an upright position. One pump releases roughly 0.14 ml, which corresponds to a light misting of the face in one or two pumps. From this you can estimate both the consumption of the filling and the number of applications from one package.

The mister is made of polypropylene. It works without problems with water-based and alcohol-based contents. With products high in essential oils, solvents or with a low pH, we recommend verifying the behaviour of the plastic parts and the seal in the finished formulation, ideally several weeks before you use the set for a whole batch.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. Before use, wash the bottle with warm water and a small amount of detergent, rinse thoroughly and disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Rinse the mister by fitting it onto a bottle of clean water and pumping it several times, then let it dry. Fill only once it is completely dry; residual water would dilute the preservative system.

Reuse. The glass can be washed and reused without limit. The mister lasts for several fillings if it is rinsed between them. If it starts to dispense unevenly or stops sealing at the neck, replace it. It is not worth cleaning the dip tube and nozzle mechanically; they are more likely to be damaged than cleaned.

Glass and heat. The bottle can withstand being filled with a warmer solution, but not sudden changes in temperature. Hot contents in cold glass or cold glass in hot water can crack. Fill with cooled contents, and when sterilising the bottle with steam, let it cool down gradually.

Light and white labels stand out on blue glass, while transparent films get lost on dark glass. For alcohol-based contents use an alcohol-resistant adhesive, otherwise the label will start to peel off during spraying.

Recycling. When sorting waste, take the set apart. The glass bottle goes into glass, the mister into plastics.

The set is intended for cosmetic products. It is not declared for filling food, drinks or syrups and we do not recommend it for such use.

Frequently asked questions

Does blue glass protect the contents from light as well as amber glass?
Not entirely; blue glass reduces light less than amber glass, but more than clear glass. For hydrosols, toners and perfume waters with a normal shelf life the protection is sufficient, especially if the bottle is not stored in direct sunlight. For contents with highly light-sensitive ingredients, for example certain vitamins, it is better to choose amber glass.
Can oil be filled into the 50 ml glass bottle with a mister?
No, the mister is intended for thin water-based and alcohol-based contents. Vegetable oils are too thick to be drawn up and dispersed into a mist; the mister either fails to draw them up or produces a stream and the nozzle clogs. For oils and serums the same bottle with a dropper or a pump is suitable, not one with a mister.
Why doesn't the mister spray after filling?
Before first use the mister needs to prime the dip tube, which takes a few empty pumps. If it still does not spray after that, check that the dip tube is submerged in the contents and that the bottle is not tilted. If the contents are thick or contain undissolved particles, the nozzle may clog and the mister needs to be rinsed with clean water.
Is the glass bottle with a mister suitable for alcohol-based contents, for example perfume water or body spray?
Yes, glass does not react with alcohol and the polypropylene mister tolerates ethanol in common concentrations. With perfume waters high in fragrance substances and with alcohol-based sprays containing added essential oils, we recommend verifying the seal and the behaviour of the mister on a single unit before filling a whole batch. Alcohol also loosens common adhesives, so choose an alcohol-resistant label.
Can I replace the mister on the 50 ml glass bottle with a different closure?
Yes, the bottle has a standard neck type listed in the specifications, so closures, droppers and misters with the same thread from the Handymade range fit it. Ready-made bottle-plus-closure combinations have their own description. For your own combination we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation, because different closures seal on the neck differently.
