Product description

The white plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a volume of 50 ml and a black fine mist sprayer is ready-to-use packaging for liquid cosmetic products that are applied by spraying: facial toners, hydrolates, refreshing face and body sprays, hair tonics or alcohol-based hand sprays. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics, so you only need to fill it and screw on the sprayer.

The bottle is made of PET, is lightweight and unbreakable, so it is suitable for a handbag, for travel, for samples and for test batches. The white opaque wall lets through less light than clear packaging, which helps protect contents that are more sensitive to light. The black sprayer head gives the set a coherent, contrasting look.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial toners and hydrolates – thin water-based products are applied evenly by the sprayer, without your hands coming into contact with the contents.
  • Refreshing and setting sprays – the lightweight bottle is comfortable to carry and dispenses a fine mist that quickly settles on the skin.
  • Hair tonics and leave-in hair sprays – spraying makes application to the lengths and scalp easier.
  • Alcohol-based toners and hand sprays – thin water-alcohol solutions are sprayed evenly.
  • Samples and test batches – the small volume is suitable for trying out a formulation or for offering samples to customers.

How the sprayer dispenses

The sprayer with an 18/415 neck finish works mechanically, without a propellant. One press releases approximately 0.14 ml of the contents as a fine mist. A dose of this size covers the face, neck or a smaller area of skin. Spraying works best with contents that have a viscosity close to water. The head cannot spray thick serums, emulsions or gels and may become clogged.

The dip tube should reach just above the bottom of the bottle. If it is too long after fitting, shorten it with a diagonal cut so that the contents are drawn up even when only a little remains and the tube does not bend inside.

Before first use, press the head several times to prime it until the tube fills with the contents. The first two to three doses are often weaker or fail to spray.

Nominal volume and filling

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for with normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is higher. The difference serves as a reserve for the tube and the sprayer head, which take up part of the space once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If overfilled, the contents leak through the thread after the sprayer is fitted and the closure does not seal.

Preparation and reuse

Before the first filling, rinse the bottle and the sprayer with clean water, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water would dilute the contents and, in preserved products, reduce the effectiveness of the preservation.

The set withstands repeated filling. When changing the contents, rinse the sprayer head as well: draw clean water or alcohol into it and press it several times so that the remains of the previous product are flushed out of the tube and the nozzle. The bottle is made of PET and the sprayer of PP; when recycling, separate them and place them with plastics.

Good to know

Only the bottle has a certificate for direct food contact. The sprayer does not have such a certificate, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics and not for filling with food.

For contents with a higher proportion of essential oils or organic solvents, check the behaviour of the packaging on a sample, as the plastic is not intended for aggressive chemicals. Do not expose the bottle to direct sunlight or heat sources.

Before offering a finished product with a sprayer, always test it in the filled state for several days. Check the tightness of the thread when the bottle is laid on its side, any change in the colour of the contents, and whether the nozzle dries out after standing.

The bottle has a neck with an 18 mm thread. You will find closures with the same neck type, as well as other ready-made packaging + closure combinations, in the Handymade range. When making your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 50 ml plastic bottle with a sprayer suitable for alcohol-based toners and sprays?
Yes, thin water-alcohol solutions are sprayed evenly from this set. Before filling a larger batch, observe the filled packaging for several days to check that the thread seals and that the nozzle does not dry out after standing. For contents with a high proportion of essential oils or organic solvents, check compatibility on a sample, as the plastic is not intended for aggressive chemicals.
Can the sprayer be used to apply oil or serum?
No, the sprayer is intended for liquids with a viscosity close to water. The head will not spray oil serums, emulsions and gels; it will only produce drops or the nozzle will clog. For oil-based and thicker products, use a bottle with a dropper or a pump.
How much product does one press of the sprayer release?
One press releases approximately 0.14 ml of product as a fine mist. The dose covers the face, neck or a smaller area of skin, so a 50 ml bottle lasts several weeks with daily use. The first doses after filling are often weaker until the tube fills with the contents.
Does the white plastic pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
Partially, as the white opaque wall lets through less light than a clear bottle. It is therefore a better choice than clear packaging for products with more sensitive ingredients. However, it does not replace complete protection from light, so store the filled packaging away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
Can I use the set for food, for example for an oil or vinegar spray?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the bottle has a certificate for direct food contact; the sprayer has no such assessment. For food use, choose a different combination, as this set is intended for cosmetic products.
