Product description

A plastic medicine bottle with a black fine mist sprayer dispenses hydrosols, toners and other thin preparations as a fine mist. The 50 ml volume suits facial and hair toners, refreshing face sprays, alcohol-based hand sprays, or spraying water when applying mineral make-up. The amber PET filters light, which you will appreciate with hydrosols and preparations containing essential oils, as these lose their scent more quickly in light. The bottle is lightweight and unbreakable, so you can carry it in a handbag or a travel cosmetic bag without worry.

How the set works

The sprayer screws directly onto the bottle, as both parts have the same 18 mm neck type. The dip tube reaches the bottom, so almost all of the contents can be sprayed and you do not need to tilt the bottle during use. Each press releases the same small amount of product every time. A toner or hydrosol is therefore applied evenly and the skin does not end up soaked.

The pump mechanism is built for thin, watery liquids. Aqueous solutions and alcohol-based preparations come out of it as a fine mist. The pump either cannot draw up thick oils, emulsions or preparations with a thickener, or sprays them as a stream instead of a mist, and with longer use the nozzle becomes clogged. Before filling a larger batch, we therefore recommend testing one piece with the finished formulation.

If the sprayer’s dip tube is longer than the bottle, shorten it with a sharp knife so that it ends just above the bottom. After screwing on the sprayer, press the pump several times into the air until it primes and starts to spray evenly.

Nominal and total volume

The 50 ml figure is the nominal volume, that is, the amount the bottle is designed to hold in normal filling. Physically, a little more fits into it up to the rim of the neck. This difference serves as a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the sprayer, which take up part of the space once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume. If it were filled to the brim, the product would be pushed out through the neck when the sprayer is fitted.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Rinse the pump by pressing it several times in the alcohol.
  • Filling – pour in the product once it has cooled. PET is not intended for hot liquids and may deform at higher temperatures.
  • Essential oils and solvents – hydrosols, toners and alcohol-based sprays with a usual proportion of essential oils are fine. With undiluted essential oils, pure solvents or strongly alcoholic preparations, we recommend checking how the plastic behaves and whether the seal holds on one piece before longer use.
  • Contact with food and cosmetics – the set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The certificate for direct contact with food applies to the bottle alone; the sprayer does not have it, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
  • Reuse – after washing and disinfection, the bottle can be filled again. Pump warm water and then alcohol through the sprayer to remove residues of the previous product from the tube and nozzle. If the pump sprays intermittently after cleaning, replace it with a new one.
  • Recycling – unscrew the sprayer before sorting. The bottle is made of PET and the sprayer of PP; they belong in plastics as two separate pieces.

The sprayer is not suitable for thick oils, emulsions and preparations with a thickener. Fill such formulations into a bottle with a dropper or a pump.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 50 ml plastic medicine bottle with sprayer suitable for hydrosol?
Yes, hydrosols are among the most suitable contents for this set. The sprayer works with a thin, watery liquid and produces a fine mist that is applied to the skin evenly. The amber bottle also filters light, so the hydrosol loses its scent more slowly. The hydrosol must be preserved, as the packaging alone will not protect it from microbial spoilage.
Can oil be sprayed with the 50 ml sprayer?
No, thick oils and oil blends do not belong in this sprayer. The pump draws them up with difficulty and sprays a stream instead of a mist, and the nozzle gradually becomes clogged. For oil serums and body oils, a bottle with a dropper or a pump is more suitable. Thin alcohol-based preparations with a small proportion of oil work, but we recommend testing them on one piece first.
Does the amber PET bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the plastic reduces the passage of light and thus slows down changes in the scent and colour of sensitive preparations. The packaging does not provide complete darkness, but with hydrosols and preparations containing essential oils the difference compared with clear packaging is noticeable. We still recommend not exposing the bottle to direct sunlight, especially if it contains a preparation with a higher proportion of fragrance ingredients.
Is the bottle with sprayer set approved for contact with food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. The certificate for direct contact with food applies to the amber bottle alone; the sprayer does not have this certificate. The set is therefore intended for cosmetic preparations, for which both parts are suitable.
How do I prepare the bottle with sprayer before filling, and can it be reused?
Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with alcohol and leave them to dry, then run alcohol through the pump without any product. The set can be reused; repeat the procedure each time you change the contents. The sprayer is the most sensitive part. If it does not spray evenly after cleaning or does not seal properly, replace it with a new one and keep the bottle.
