Product description

The glass spray bottle in a glossy black finish is a complete packaging and closure set for products that are applied as a fine mist and are meant to stay protected from light. The opaque black glass lets no light reach the contents, so it is particularly suited to facial and body mists, toners, hydrosols, hair sprays and perfumed waters, whose ingredients lose their scent or effect when exposed to light. The sprayer, with a thread to fit the bottle neck and a smoke-coloured cap, complements the bottle in both colour and function, so the finished product does not need to be combined with a different closure.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The glass bottle alone holds the certification for direct contact with food; the sprayer does not, which is why the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic and similar non-food products.

What makes this set practical

  • Protection from light – the opaque black glass shields the contents from light, which you will appreciate with hydrosols, products containing vitamins, plant extracts or fragrance components sensitive to UV radiation.
  • Glass does not react with the contents – it does not take on scents or dyes and tolerates both alcohol-based and water-based formulas, so once cleaned the bottle can be reused even for a different type of product.
  • A fine mist in a single press – the sprayer dispenses a small amount evenly spread over the skin or hair, so the product does not pour out and consumption is more economical than pouring.
  • Protected nozzle – the smoke-coloured cap prevents accidental pressing in a bag or on a shelf and keeps the nozzle clean.
  • A uniform black look – the glossy glass and black sprayer give a coherent impression with no further finishing, and a light or metallic label stands out well against the black surface.

Suitable for products such as

The sprayer is built for liquid, low-viscosity contents that pass through a thin tube and nozzle:

  • facial and body mists, makeup setting sprays, refreshing toners;
  • hydrosols and floral waters, herbal infusions for skin or hair;
  • hair sprays with sea salt, light leave-in spray conditioners, detangling sprays;
  • perfumed waters and body sprays on an alcohol base, air and textile fresheners;
  • alcohol-based hand sanitizing sprays.

Thick emulsions, gels, serums with thickeners and pure plant oils do not belong in the sprayer – either the nozzle fails to spray, or it clogs. Very light dry oils and oil mists with a high ester content may work, but in that case test how the sprayer behaves on a small batch.

Nominal and total volume

The bottle has a nominal volume of 100 ml. This is the volume the packaging is intended for under normal filling. The total brim-full volume, given in the specifications, is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides room for the sprayer's dip tube, which pushes part of the contents upward once screwed on, and for the liquid expanding as the temperature changes. It should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – otherwise the product spills over when the sprayer is fitted and may leak through the thread after pressing.

The sprayer tube should reach just above the bottom of the bottle. If it bends or presses against the bottom when screwed on, trim it with a sharp knife at an angle so it does not stick to the bottom and can draw up the last few millilitres.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle with warm water, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely upside down. Pump the sprayer through several times with clean water or alcohol and then empty until only air comes out of the nozzle. Moisture inside the packaging is the most common reason a water-based product without sufficient preservation spoils quickly.

The first presses after filling run "empty" – the tube first has to fill with liquid. This is normal behaviour of a mechanical sprayer, not a fault.

The contents level cannot be seen. The black glass protects the product but does not reveal how much is left. When selling, therefore, state the volume on the label and explain to the customer that the bottle "gets lighter" as it runs out. For your own use, it helps to shake the bottle or weigh it.

The sprayer is made of polypropylene. It tolerates water, alcohol and most cosmetic ingredients well. With products containing a high proportion of essential oils, citrus essences or solvents, check in the finished formulation whether the mechanism softens and loses its seal over time. The glass bottle itself handles these contents without any problem.

Temperature. Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes, so fill it with contents cooled to room temperature. Hot filling is not suitable for the plastic sprayer either.

Labelling. The cylindrical shape of the bottle with straight walls makes it easy to apply a label. On glossy glass, labels with an adhesive designed for glass or smooth surfaces hold better.

Recycling. Before disposal, take the set apart: the glass bottle goes with glass, the sprayer with plastics according to local rules.

A different closure. The bottle can also be used with a cap or dropper of the same neck type. Ready-made combinations of bottle and closure can be found in the Handymade range; for your own combination, check the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation.

The set is not intended for food. Only the glass bottle itself holds the certification for direct contact with food. With this sprayer, use it exclusively for cosmetic and non-food products.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the opaque black glass lets no light reach the contents, thus protecting ingredients that lose their effect or scent in light. It is suited to hydrosols, products with vitamins, plant extracts and perfumed waters. The drawback is that the contents level cannot be seen through the wall, so it is advisable to state the volume on the label.
Can oil or an oil serum be filled into the glass spray bottle?
Only very light dry oils and oil mists, and even then we recommend testing on a small batch. The sprayer is built for water-based and alcohol-based liquids of low viscosity. Thick plant oils, serums with thickeners and emulsions will not be sprayed by the nozzle or will clog it. The bottle itself handles oil without any problem, but for thick contents choose a dropper.
How many millilitres actually fit into the 100 ml bottle?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 100 ml, not to the brim. The total volume up to the neck is slightly larger, and this difference provides room for the sprayer tube and for the liquid expanding as the temperature changes. If filled to the brim, the product spills over when the sprayer is fitted and may later leak through the thread.
How is the glass spray bottle cleaned before reuse?
Wash the bottle with warm soapy water, rinse it, disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and let it dry upside down. Pump the sprayer first with warm water, then with alcohol and finally empty until only air comes out of the nozzle. When switching scented products, bear in mind that the plastic sprayer may retain a trace of the original scent; the glass does not take it on.
Is the black glass spray bottle set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. The glass bottle alone holds the certification for direct contact with food; the plastic sprayer does not. With this sprayer, therefore, use the packaging only for cosmetics, perfumed waters, fresheners and similar non-food products. The set as a whole is declared for contact with cosmetics.
Why does the sprayer not spray immediately after filling?
The first presses fill the dip tube with liquid, and only then does the sprayer start to form a mist. This is normal behaviour of a mechanical sprayer. If it does not spray even after several presses, check whether the tube is bent or stuck to the bottom and whether the contents are too thick for the nozzle.
