Product description
Black glass bottle with dropper, 50 ml is a ready-to-use set for serums, oils and tinctures that need protection from light and drop-by-drop dispensing. It consists of a vial-shaped glass bottle, a long plastic dropper and a black screw cap with 18/410 thread. All three parts share the same neck size, so once filled the bottle simply closes and the contents are dispensed precisely.
Black glossy glass has a practical role beyond its appearance: it blocks light, protecting contents sensitive to oxidation and photodegradation – for example vegetable oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin serums or blends with essential oils. Compared to brown or blue glass, which only reduces light, this provides complete shielding. The trade-off is that the contents are not visible and the fill level must be assessed by weight or by drawing up the dropper.
How the set works
- Bottle – the glass is chemically resistant, does not absorb scents and does not react with oils or alcohol-based extracts.
- Dropper – the long transparent polypropylene dropper fits into the neck and, when the bottle is inverted, dispenses the contents drop by drop. The length is matched to the vial shape so that it reaches deep enough even when the fill level is low.
- Cap – the black plastic cap with 18/410 thread holds the dropper in the neck and seals the bottle. When tightened properly, it seals the dropper against the neck, preventing leakage when inverted.
The dropper works best with liquids of low to medium viscosity. Thick serums with a higher proportion of gelling agents or oil blends containing waxes flow slowly and drops form irregularly. With such formulations it is advisable to test the behaviour in advance.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the volume for which the container is designed at standard filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve: space for the dropper, which displaces some of the contents upward when inserted, and room for the contents to expand with temperature changes. The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If overfilled, the contents will overflow through the neck when the dropper is inserted, soiling the thread.
After filling, first insert the dropper and then screw on the cap. If the contents are pushed above the rim when inserting the dropper, the bottle is overfilled – reduce the amount at the next filling.
What it is suitable for
- Facial and hair serums – water-based and oil-based, where a few drops are dispensed per application.
- Oil blends and massage oils in small packaging – dark glass slows down yellowing of the oil caused by light.
- Essential oil blends – glass tolerates them without change, which is not always the case with certain plastic containers.
- Alcohol tinctures and extracts – glass is stable against ethanol; with a high alcohol content it is advisable to check the dropper seal in the specific set.
- Concentrated active preparations – light protection and precise dispensing of small quantities come together here.
The set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The glass bottle alone holds food-contact certification; the dropper and cap do not, so the set as a whole is not intended for food use and we recommend it for cosmetic preparations.
Good to know
Preparation before first filling. We recommend washing the bottle, dropper and cap before use, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing them to dry completely. Any residual water in the dropper or the neck would otherwise get into an anhydrous content.
Reuse. Glass withstands repeated washing and disinfection. The polypropylene dropper can be washed and reused. After contents containing essential oils or a high proportion of alcohol, fragrance residues may remain in it, so it is safer to replace it with a new one when changing the contents.
Glass and heat. Do not pour hot contents into the bottle – a sudden temperature change can crack the glass. Emulsions and serums are filled only after cooling to room temperature, which also benefits the dropper and cap.
Labelling. The glossy black surface is smooth and labels adhere well to it. On a dark container, labels with a light background or light print are more legible.
Closures. The set is designed for the 18/410 thread. Other closures with the same neck type and further ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing behaviour and container performance with the specific formulation.
Recycling. The glass bottle belongs in glass recycling; the dropper and cap are plastic. They are separated before disposal.
Black glass completely hides the contents. If a formulation changes colour over time or sediment may form in it, this cannot be checked visually. When developing a formula, therefore, carry out a stability test in clear glass and only fill the finished product into black glass.
