Product description
The green glass bottle with lotion pump is designed for serums, facial fluids, light creams and body lotions that are applied in small doses without reaching into the contents with your fingers. The set consists of a 100 ml glass medicine bottle and a plastic pump with a black top, which fits the neck of the bottle directly, so you do not need to choose a separate closure.
Green glass partially reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which is useful for formulations with vegetable oils, extracts or light-sensitive active ingredients. Glass does not react with common cosmetic ingredients and can be reused after washing. Both the bottle and the pump are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.
What the set is suitable for
- Serums and facial fluids – a small dose per press lets you apply exactly as much as your skincare needs.
- Light creams and emulsions – thinner O/W emulsions pass through the pump smoothly, without having to be scooped out of the bottle.
- Body lotions – the 100 ml volume suits a travel pack or a smaller batch on which you can test your formulation.
- Oil serums and facial oils – coloured glass slows the effect of light on oils prone to oxidation, and the pump prevents spills.
Dispensing and filling
One press of the pump dispenses approximately 0.14 ml of the contents. With serums, a few presses are enough for the face; with body products, you press several times in a row. The pump tube reaches the bottom of the bottle, so almost all of the contents can be used up. A small residue in the tube and on the walls is normal with any pump.
How smoothly the contents are dispensed depends on their consistency. Thin and medium-thick emulsions pass through without difficulty, while thick creams, butters or products with a high proportion of wax may not be drawn up by the pump. We recommend testing how your own formulation behaves on one bottle before you fill a larger batch.
If a cream is too thick for dispensing, it helps to reduce the proportion of thickener or consistency factors in the formulation. The pump works best with contents that move slowly when the bottle is tilted.
The bottle has a nominal volume of 100 ml and a slightly larger brimful capacity. The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The difference from the brimful capacity is a reserve for the tube and the pump mechanism and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the neck.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the tube would get into the filled product.
- Air access – the pump is not an airless system. Air is drawn into the bottle with every dose, so plan for a preservative and, with sensitive oils, an antioxidant as well.
- Glass and temperature – let a hot emulsion cool before filling. A sudden change in temperature can damage the glass, and warm contents change volume as they cool.
- Pump plastic – the pump is made of polypropylene, which resists common oil-based and water-based formulations. For contents with a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend testing the resistance with your specific formulation.
- Reuse – both parts can be washed and filled again. Rinse the pump with warm water and detergent and pump clean water through it several times until the tube is clear.
- Recycling – the bottle belongs in glass recycling, the pump in plastic recycling.
The set is intended for cosmetic products. Neither the bottle nor the pump is approved for contact with food, so it is not suitable for olive oils, syrups or other foods.
Closures with the same neck type as given in the bottle parameters, and other ready-made combinations, can be found in the Handymade range. If you choose your own combination, we recommend testing the tightness and dispensing with your specific contents.
