Green Glass Bottle, Lotion Pump, 30 ml

A green glass bottle with a nominal volume of 30 ml and a black plastic lotion pump make a ready-to-use set for creams, lotions and thicker serums that you want to dispense by pressing, without unscrewing the cap. Tinted glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which is useful for emulsions with oils prone to oxidation or with light-sensitive active ingredients. The volume suits an eye cream, a hand cream for your bag, a customer sample or a smaller batch for your own use.

The bottle has a medicine bottle shape with an 18 mm neck, and the pump screws onto it. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What it is suitable for

• Face and eye creams – the pump dispenses a small amount onto your finger, so you do not open the bottle with each use or touch the contents with your fingers.
• Hand creams and spot care – 30 ml is used up within a few weeks, so it also suits formulations with a shorter period of use after opening.
• Thicker serums and gel creams – green glass reduces light exposure, which helps formulations with light-sensitive ingredients and oils prone to oxidation.
• Samples and test batches – when developing a formulation, you can test how the emulsion behaves in the pump before filling larger packaging.

Dispensing and filling

The pump works in the usual way: when pressed, it pushes the contents up through the tube and draws air into the bottle at the same time. One dose is approximately 0.12 ml, and the actual amount depends on the viscosity of the contents. The pump tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before fitting the pump, shorten the tube with a diagonal cut so that it ends just above the bottom. The pump can then use up almost all of the contents, and the tube does not rest against the bottom.

Fill the emulsion only after it has cooled to room temperature, as glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is intended for during normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the pump tube, for the air the pump draws in during use, and for any expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill the bottle to the brim, the contents will overflow when the pump is fitted and the pump may not work properly.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Rinse the pump and let it dry disassembled so that no water remains in the tube. You can reuse the packaging, but the pump cannot always be cleaned thoroughly. When changing the formulation or after longer use, it is safer to replace the pump.

Each press draws air into the bottle, so the contents are not sealed off from the surroundings. Water-based emulsions in this set need a functioning preservative system, just as they do in a jar. We recommend checking the tightness and behaviour of the pump with your specific formulation, especially if it contains a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, which may affect the plastic parts.
