Product description
The amber plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a volume of 10 ml, a black lotion pump and a smoky overcap is a ready-made packaging solution for small quantities of creams, serums and gels. The bottle is made of lightweight, unbreakable PET, and its amber colour reduces the amount of light reaching the contents. The pump dispenses approximately the same dose every time, the contents do not come into contact with your fingers, and only as much is taken from the bottle as is actually used.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the bottle has a separate certificate for direct food contact; the pump does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.
What the set is suitable for
The small volume and the pump are well suited to products that are used in small amounts and should have as little contact as possible with air and fingers:
- Eye creams and serums – only a small amount is taken at a time, and the contents are not spoiled by repeatedly opening a jar.
- Concentrated serums and active creams – with more expensive formulations, it makes sense to fill a smaller quantity that can be used up in time.
- Samples and testers – your customer or client can try the cream in the same type of closure that the full-size pack will have.
- Travel packs – lightweight plastic will not break in a cosmetics bag, and the overcap protects the pump head from being pressed accidentally.
- Ointments and balms of softer consistency – provided they can be dispensed through a pump, which we recommend checking in advance with thicker formulations.
How the pump works
The lotion pump screws directly onto the neck of the bottle. When the head is pressed, the contents are drawn up through the tube from the bottom of the bottle and pushed out through the outlet channel. One dose is approximately 0.14 ml. Before first use, press the pump several times until the tube is filled.
The smoky overcap is dark-tinted and fits over the pump head. It protects the outlet from dust and reduces the risk of the pump being pressed in a handbag or during transport. Remove it before use and put it back after use.
Very fluid contents, such as watery toners, may drip from the lotion pump or be dispensed unevenly. With thick ointments, on the other hand, the pump may fail to draw up the contents. We recommend testing the consistency of your product with the pump before filling the whole batch.
Filling and preparation
Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water would get into the product and could put a strain on the preservative system.
The pump tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before fitting it, shorten it with a straight cut so that its end reaches just above the bottom. A tube that is too long will bend and the pump will not draw up the contents well, while one that is too short will leave an unused residue at the bottom.
Creams and thicker serums are most conveniently filled into the narrow neck with a syringe without a needle or a small funnel, so that the thread does not get dirty. A dirty thread makes the closure harder to tighten and may cause leaks.
The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total volume up to the neck is larger, but this difference serves as a reserve for the tube and the body of the pump and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise part of the contents will be pushed out through the thread when the pump is screwed on.
Good to know
- Amber colour and light – dark plastic limits the light reaching the contents, but it does not provide complete protection. Store products with sensitive ingredients away from direct sunlight.
- PET and aggressive ingredients – with formulations containing a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend checking in advance whether the bottle material changes its appearance and whether the fragrance of the contents changes. Do not expose the bottle to aggressive chemicals.
- Heat – fill with emulsions and gels that have cooled down. A hot mixture may deform the PET and also changes the behaviour of the pump.
- Reuse – after thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle and the pump can be used again. Rinse the tube and the pump channel with warm water until clean water comes out, and leave to dry.
- Other closures – the bottle has a neck with the thread type stated in the parameters. You can find closures with the same neck and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you are putting together your own set, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
- Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the pump of PP. Separate them from each other and empty them before disposal.
