Product description

A 100 ml plastic medicine bottle with a screw-on fine mist sprayer makes ready-to-use packaging for cosmetics that are applied as a spray. The amber-coloured PET dims the light and protects contents that are sensitive to sunlight, such as toners with plant extracts, hydrosols or refreshing sprays. The plastic is light and does not break, so the bottle copes with travel as well as everyday use in the bathroom.

The sprayer with an 18/415 neck finish has a white head with a silver glossy collar and is made of PP and aluminium. It sprays a fine mist from thin liquids. Once filled, the set is ready for sale or your own use, and as a whole it is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial toners and hydrosols – the sprayer dispenses thin water-based preparations evenly and without them running down the skin.
  • Setting and refreshing sprays – in water-alcohol formulations, the amber plastic limits the light reaching aromatic and active ingredients.
  • Hair sprays and leave-in conditioners – thin solutions with panthenol, hydrolysed proteins or infusions are applied directly to the hair or scalp.
  • Body and room sprays – the 100 ml volume matches the usual size of a personal or travel pack.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is larger, because it also includes the space up to the neck. This difference serves as a reserve for the sprayer dip tube, which is immersed in the contents once the sprayer is screwed on, and for the expansion of the liquid when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the neck when the tube is inserted.

Before the first filling, rinse the bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water would dilute the contents and, in unpreserved products, it would increase the risk of microbial spoilage.

Using the sprayer

The dip tube reaches almost to the bottom of the bottle, so the contents can be used up without any remainder. One press releases approximately 0.14 ml. With a new sprayer, or one that has not been used for a while, the head needs to be pressed several times until the tube fills and the mist starts to come out evenly.

The sprayer is intended for liquids with a viscosity close to water. Thick serums, higher-viscosity oils or emulsions with a thickener will not be sprayed by the nozzle, or may clog it over time. For oil-based contents, a bottle with a dropper or a pump is more suitable.

Good to know

The certificate for direct contact with food applies only to the amber bottle on its own, not to the sprayer. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetics and should not be used for food.

Concentrated essential oils, strong solvents and a high proportion of alcohol are among the more aggressive ingredients that PET should not be exposed to for a long time. For such formulations, we recommend testing one bottle for several weeks before filling a larger batch and also checking the seal and the spring of the sprayer.

The bottle withstands repeated use. The coloured plastic does not allow you to check the level of the contents by eye, so when filling, weigh the bottle or use a clear measuring jug instead. The PET bottle goes with plastics, while the PP sprayer with an aluminium collar is unscrewed before recycling and sorted separately.

Do not place the bottle in direct sunlight or near a heat source, as at higher temperatures it may deform and the contents expand. Do not fill PET with hot liquids – let hydrosols and toners cool down before filling.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET dims the light and limits how much of it reaches the contents. For hydrosols and toners with plant extracts, vitamins or essential oils this is useful, because these ingredients lose their scent and effectiveness faster in light. The protection is not complete, so store the bottle out of direct sunlight, including while you are using it.
How much fits into a bottle with a nominal volume of 100 ml?
The bottle is designed to be filled with 100 ml of contents, although more will physically fit if you fill it to the brim. The difference between the nominal and the total volume is a reserve for the sprayer dip tube and for the expansion of the liquid when the temperature changes. If you filled it to the brim, part of the contents would be pushed out through the neck when the tube is inserted.
Can the bottle with the sprayer be filled with oil or a thick serum?
No, the sprayer with an 18/415 neck finish is intended for thin liquids with a viscosity close to water. The nozzle will not spray oils, thick serums or emulsions with a thickener, and the mechanism may clog. For oil-based and thicker contents, a bottle with a dropper or a pump is more suitable, and the sprayer should be kept for toners, hydrosols, water-alcohol sprays and thin solutions.
Is the PET bottle suitable for alcohol-based toners and sprays?
A PET bottle is commonly used for water-alcohol toners and for setting or refreshing sprays. A high alcohol content or concentrated essential oils are more aggressive ingredients that PET should not be exposed to for a long time. Before filling a larger batch, we recommend testing one bottle with your specific formulation for several weeks and checking the plastic, the seal and the sprayer nozzle.
Is the amber bottle and sprayer set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. The certificate for direct food contact applies only to the amber PET bottle on its own, not to the sprayer, so the finished combination is intended for cosmetic products. To fill food, the bottle has to be combined with a closure that has a food contact certificate.
How do you clean the sprayer, and can the bottle be reused?
Yes, both the bottle and the sprayer can be used again once emptied. Rinse the bottle with warm water, spray clean water through the sprayer with its dip tube several times so that no dried contents remain in the mechanism, and leave everything to dry completely. Before a new filling, we recommend disinfecting the inside with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, especially for products without a preservative.
