Product description
The amber plastic medicine bottle with a 100 ml volume and a white lotion pump is used for filling and dispensing creams, face lotions, serums and gels. The contents are dispensed by pressing the pump, so you do not reach into the bottle with your fingers and the product comes into contact with air only during dispensing itself. The amber colour filters light, so the set suits formulations with ingredients sensitive to sunlight, for example vegetable oils, vitamins or essential oils. The plastic is light and does not break when dropped, which you will appreciate when travelling and when working in a salon.
The set consists of a bottle made of PET and a pump made of PP with an 18 mm thread. Both parts are matched to each other and supplied together. The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and you will find the declaration of conformity with the product.
What the set is suitable for
- Face creams and lotions – the 100 ml volume corresponds to a common size for day or night care, and the pump dispenses small amounts, so the cream is used economically.
- Serums and light gels – thinner textures pass through the tube smoothly.
- Body lotions and after-sun lotions – in a travel size that does not break in a bag or by the pool.
- Cleansing gels and liquid face soaps – one or two presses are enough for one wash.
- Samples and test batches – the light packaging is easy to send to customers to try.
How the pump works
The pump tube reaches almost to the bottom of the bottle, so most of the contents can be dispensed without tilting. One press releases a small amount, suitable for face products, where you work with a little at a time. For body lotion, several presses are needed.
Before first use, the pump is primed with several presses until the tube fills and the product starts to come out. The consistency of the contents determines how comfortable dispensing is. Liquid to medium-thick textures pass smoothly, while thick creams, butters and balms do not pass through the tube or are dispensed with effort. Products with solid particles, for example scrubs, are not suitable either, because the grains can clog the mechanism.
Before filling a whole batch, fill one bottle and check that the formulation is dispensed smoothly, that the pump does not draw in air and that the product does not drip from the nozzle after pressing. If the product moves with difficulty, it is better to adjust the viscosity of the formulation. Pressing harder will not help.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume of 100 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is larger. The difference provides a reserve for the pump tube and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill only to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle were overfilled, the contents would be pushed out through the tube after the pump is screwed on, or the tightness of the seal would be reduced.
Good to know
Before first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Rinse the tube and let it drain, because any water left inside the pump would mix with the first doses of the product.
PET does not tolerate high temperatures. Fill emulsions and gels only after they have cooled to room temperature. Hot product can deform the bottle wall and also changes the behaviour of the pump.
Essential oils and solvents can gradually swell or damage the plastic at a high concentration. This is usually not a problem with ordinary emulsions with fragrance at the usual usage rate. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, pure oils or alcohol, we recommend testing the behaviour of the packaging on one piece over several weeks.
Amber plastic filters light, but not completely. The bottle reduces the amount of light that reaches the contents, but it is still better to store the finished product out of direct sunlight.
Only the bottle itself has a certificate for direct food contact. The lotion pump does not have this declaration, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics and we do not recommend it for food.
Reuse is possible, as the packaging can be washed and refilled. However, the dispensing mechanism is harder to clean inside than a smooth bottle, so we recommend reusing it only for the same type of product and using a new pump when you change the formulation.
Recycling: the bottle is made of PET and the pump of PP. Before disposal, separate both parts and place them in sorted plastic waste.
If you want to use the bottle with a different closure, you will find closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
