Product description
The plastic bottle with a fine mist sprayer, 100 ml, is designed for filling with your own toners, facial mists, hair sprays, disinfectant solutions or herbal infusions that are applied by spraying onto the skin, hair or a surface. The amber colour of the PET bottle reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so it is also suitable for formulations with hydrosols, plant extracts and active ingredients that lose their effectiveness in light. The bottle is lightweight and, unlike glass, does not break, so you can take it in a handbag, on trips or into the bathroom without worry.
The set is supplied as a ready-made pair: the bottle and a white fine mist sprayer with an 18/415 neck finish. The length of the dip tube matches the height of the bottle, so the contents can be sprayed almost to the bottom without tilting. The bottle is shaped like a medicine bottle with a narrow neck, sits well in the hand and does not spill when filled through a small funnel.
What the set is suitable for
- Facial toners and mists – aqueous solutions with hydrosols, glycerine or low molecular weight hyaluronic acid are dispersed into an even layer without wet patches.
- Hair sprays – light infusions, solutions with proteins or with a low alcohol content for detangling and refreshing the hair.
- Disinfectant and alcohol solutions – sprays for hands or surfaces with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol.
- Room sprays and home fragrances – water-alcohol compositions with a fragrance oil dissolved using a solubiliser.
- Alcohol for the soap workshop – a spray to remove bubbles from the surface of cold process soap is a common use for a small bottle with a sprayer.
The sprayer and how it behaves
The sprayer works mechanically. One press releases a small dose, which is dispersed in a cone. It handles liquids with a viscosity close to that of water best. Thicker solutions, serums with a higher content of gelling agents or pure vegetable oils overload the mechanism: they spray in a stream instead of a mist, or the dip tube becomes blocked. For emulsions and oil blends, we therefore recommend testing how the sprayer behaves with your specific formulation on a single bottle before filling a larger batch.
After filling a new bottle, prime the sprayer by pressing it several times until the dip tube fills and the mechanism starts to dispense evenly. Do not take the head apart; it is attached only by screwing it onto the neck.
If you want to use the same bottle with a different closure, choose according to the neck type given in the parameters. You will find closures with the same thread and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your formulation.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling, in this case 100 ml. The physical volume of the bottle up to the neck is slightly larger. The difference is a reserve for the sprayer dip tube, for the air above the liquid and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle overflows when the sprayer is screwed on, and alcohol solutions can push the contents out around the thread in warm conditions.
Good to know
Both the bottle and the sprayer are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic and technical use.
Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the sprayer, rinse them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the dip tube would dilute the first doses and, in preserved formulations, alter the ratio of ingredients. With repeated use, it is worth spraying clean water through first and then alcohol, to remove residues of the previous contents from the mechanism.
PET normally tolerates aqueous solutions, glycerine, common preservatives and alcohol solutions. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, citrus terpenes or solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the packaging first, as these substances can make the plastic cloudy or deform it. The bottle is not intended for hot filling; let the contents cool to room temperature before pouring.
The sprayer is not a leak-proof transport closure. If the bottle is turned upside down or the pressure changes on an aeroplane, the contents may leak, so put the bottle in a resealable bag for travel and do not fill it completely.
The bottle is made of PET and the sprayer of polypropylene. When the bottle is empty, separate the two parts and sort them into plastics as separate items.
