Product description

This amber plastic medicine bottle with a white and silver glossy pump has a volume of 100 ml and is designed for filling with liquid and medium-thick cosmetic products that are applied in small amounts. One press of the pump dispenses approximately 0.14 ml, which corresponds to a typical single-use dose of facial serum or oil. The amber PET dampens light and helps protect light-sensitive contents, such as oils and serums with vitamins or plant extracts. The plastic is lightweight and does not break when dropped, so the bottle is also suitable for shipping finished products to customers or for packaging larger batches.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The bottle on its own is certified for direct food contact, but the pump is not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic use.

What it is suitable for

  • Facial serums and fluids – the small dose per press allows precise application without pouring the product from the neck.
  • Facial, body and hair oils – the oil is dispensed directly into the palm, and the amber colour also limits the amount of light reaching the contents.
  • Light emulsions and body lotions – the pump draws liquid to medium-thick products without any problem. For thick creams, we recommend testing the dispensing beforehand.
  • Smaller batches and recipe testing – a volume of 100 ml is enough for several weeks of use and does not require a large batch.

How the pump works

The pump screws directly onto the neck of the bottle. The dip tube matches the height of the medicine bottle and reaches almost to the bottom, so the pump draws up the contents almost to the end. A small residue remains below the end of the dip tube, which is normal with every pump of this type. After filling, prime the pump by pressing it several times until the dip tube fills and the first dose comes out.

Closures with the same neck finish and other ready-made bottle and closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you are making your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Do not fill the bottle up to the neck. When the pump is screwed on, it needs space for the dip tube and for the air above the liquid level, otherwise part of the contents will be pushed out when closing.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is usually higher. The difference provides a reserve for the pump with its dip tube and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Flush the pump by pumping clean water through it and then alcohol, so that the dip tube and the valve are cleaned as well. Fill only into dry packaging, as residual water would dilute the product and could affect its stability.
  • Temperature during filling – let the contents cool to room temperature before filling. A hot emulsion or oil can deform the plastic bottle.
  • Reuse – the bottle and the pump can be reused after thorough washing and drying. Oil residues in the dip tube will solidify over time and the pump will stop dispensing, so flush it immediately after emptying.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET, and the pump combines PP, aluminium and another plastic. Separate them before handing them in for recycling.

For recipes with a higher proportion of essential oils, with alcohol or with solvents, we recommend testing compatibility with the plastic on a single piece before filling the whole batch. The packaging is not designed for aggressive chemicals.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber plastic medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
The amber colour of the PET dampens light and limits the amount of it reaching the contents. For oils, serums with vitamins or extracts sensitive to light, it is therefore more suitable than a clear bottle. It does not provide complete protection, so it is still advisable to store the product away from direct sunlight.
How many doses does the pump dispense from a 100 ml bottle?
One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml, which for a full volume of 100 ml corresponds to roughly 700 presses. The actual number is slightly lower, because the pump does not draw up the small residue below the end of the dip tube and the first presses go towards filling the dip tube.
Can the pump be used for thick creams?
The pump is designed for liquid and medium-thick products, and it may not draw up thick creams and butters or may dispense them unevenly. With body lotions and light emulsions, it works without any problem. If you want to dispense a thicker emulsion, fill one bottle first and check whether the pump dispenses the contents smoothly.
Is the bottle and pump set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the plastic bottle has a separate certificate for direct food contact, the pump does not. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products and is intended for this use.
Can I fill the plastic medicine bottle with products containing alcohol or essential oils?
Compatibility must be verified in the finished formulation. PET withstands common cosmetic emulsions and vegetable oils. With a higher proportion of alcohol, essential oils or solvents, we recommend filling one piece and checking the bottle and the pump after several weeks. The packaging is not designed for aggressive chemicals.
