Product description

The plastic dropper-style bottle with a cream pump is a ready-made kit for dispensing creams, serums and body lotions: a brown PET bottle of 100 ml and a black cream pump of 18 mm that releases the contents in small doses without unscrewing. The brown tint cuts down light, so the kit suits formulations with plant oils, vitamins and extracts that lose their effectiveness faster in light. PET is lightweight and unbreakable, so the packaging holds up in the bathroom, while travelling and when selling finished cosmetics.

As a whole, the kit is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What makes the kit useful

  • Hygienic dispensing – the contents are not taken out with fingers or poured out; the pump always releases roughly the same amount. Less contact with hands reduces the risk of introducing microorganisms into the emulsion, which you will appreciate especially with formulations that have milder preservation.
  • Protection from light – the brown plastic cuts down light, which accelerates the oxidation of oils and the breakdown of sensitive active ingredients. With products containing vitamin C, retinol or unrefined oils this is a practical advantage.
  • Lightweight and unbreakable packaging – a PET bottle weighs a fraction of a glass one and survives a fall onto tiles. It is suitable for a cosmetic bag as well as for sending by post.
  • Using up almost all of the contents – the pump tube reaches to the bottom of the bottle, so the product can be used up without unscrewing and scraping out.
  • A small dose per press – the cream pump releases a small, measured amount that matches a single application of a serum or facial cream. The exact dose volume is given in the product parameters.

How to work with the kit

The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is intended for under normal filling; the total volume to the brim is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck. The difference forms a reserve for the tube and body of the pump and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the bottle is filled to the brim, part of the product will spill out when the pump is screwed on.

Before the first filling we recommend washing the bottle and pump, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and letting them dry completely. After filling, the pump is screwed onto the neck and the first presses fill the tube with product. Only then does it dispense evenly.

Fill the emulsion only after it has cooled to room temperature. The bottle must be protected from heat, and a warm mass also changes volume, so after cooling the level would drop or a vacuum would form inside the bottle.

Suitable for products such as

  • Facial creams and fluids – light to medium-thick emulsions that should flow through the tube and at the same time not spill.
  • Emulsion serums and gel creams – the small dose per press suits preparations that are applied in a small amount to the face and décolleté area.
  • Body lotions and hand creams – the 100 ml contents are enough for several weeks of use, and the pump makes application with one hand easier.
  • Eye creams and spot treatments – a precisely measured small amount prevents wasting more expensive active ingredients.

The cream pump will not draw up thick butters, balms and formulations with waxes; a jar is more suitable for those. Very thin oils and watery toners can be dispensed, but the pump is set for a cream consistency. With liquid contents we recommend testing whether the dose squirts or drips.

Good to know

  • Consistency is decisive – a product that is too thick strains the pump and may jam; one that is too thin escapes in uneven doses. With a new formulation, check the behaviour on one bottle before you fill the whole batch.
  • Essential oils and alcohol – PET and PP handle common cosmetic emulsions without difficulty. With formulations that have a higher proportion of essential oils, spirit or solvents we recommend checking whether the packaging changes appearance after a few weeks and whether the pump seals.
  • Reuse – the bottle just needs to be washed with warm water and detergent and disinfected. The pump is rinsed by pumping through warm and then clean water, and the tube is left to dry. For a different type of product it is safer to use a new pump.
  • Labelling – the dropper bottle has a straight cylindrical body onto which a label sticks without creases. The diameter and height of the bottle are in the parameters.
  • Other closures – closures with the same neck type and other ready-made packaging + closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. For your own combination we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the pump of PP; before disposal, take the kit apart so that both parts can be sorted as plastic.

As a whole the kit is not approved for contact with food. Only the bottle itself has food approval; once the cream pump is fitted, the packaging is intended exclusively for cosmetic products.

Frequently asked questions

Does the brown PET bottle with a pump protect the contents from light?
Yes, the brown tint of the PET cuts down light and slows the oxidation of oils and the breakdown of sensitive active ingredients. It is not complete darkness, so it makes sense to store the filled kit out of direct sunlight. For formulations with vitamin C, retinol or unrefined oils the brown bottle is more suitable than a clear one.
What consistency of products is the 18 mm cream pump suitable for?
The cream pump handles light to medium-thick emulsions: facial creams, fluids, body lotions and gel creams. It will not draw up thick butters, balms and formulations with waxes through the tube. It can dispense very thin oils and toners, but the dose may squirt out, so we recommend testing the behaviour on one bottle.
Can the bottle and cream pump kit be used for food?
No, the kit as a whole is not declared for contact with food. The brown 100 ml PET bottle has approval for direct contact with food on its own; the cream pump does not. Once the pump is fitted, the packaging is intended for cosmetic products, for which it is declared suitable.
How much product is filled into the bottle with a cream pump?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The reserve above the nominal volume is needed for the tube and body of the pump and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If overfilled, part of the emulsion spills out through the neck once the pump is screwed on.
How to prepare the PET bottle and pump before the first filling?
Wash the bottle and pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Fill the emulsion once it has cooled to room temperature; the bottle should be protected from heat. After screwing on the pump, press it several times until the tube fills and the product starts coming out evenly.
Is the PET bottle with a pump suitable for oils and alcohol-based contents?
For common emulsions and oil serums yes; with formulations that have a high proportion of essential oils, spirit or solvents we recommend checking the behaviour of the packaging over time. Watch whether the plastic changes appearance and whether the pump still seals after a few weeks. Do not expose the packaging to aggressive chemicals.
