Product description

This amber plastic 100 ml bottle with a white fine mist sprayer turns thin water-based fills into a fine mist: toners, hydrosols, face and hair sprays, air fresheners and water-based room fragrances. The bottle is made of PET, it is light and, unlike glass, it does not break when dropped, so it suits a handbag, travel and the workshop alike. The amber colour reduces the amount of light reaching the contents and helps protect products that lose their fragrance or effect in light, for example hydrosols, herbal infusions or sprays with essential oils.

The sprayer and the bottle have the same neck type, so they fit together without trial and error and you do not need to buy anything extra. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What it is good for

  • Face toners and hydrosols – a thin water-based fill that the sprayer applies evenly to the skin without touching it with your hands.
  • Hair sprays – water-based leave-in conditioners, refreshing sprays with hydrosol or light styling solutions.
  • Air fresheners and room sprays – water-alcohol fragrance mixtures for textiles or a room. With a higher alcohol content, check compatibility with the bottle first.
  • Working solutions in the workshop – spraying alcohol onto the surface of soap to remove bubbles, moistening a mould or dosing water when working with bath bombs.

The sprayer works with water-like liquids. Thick oils, emulsions or gels either do not pass through the nozzle or are sprayed unevenly. For such fills, a bottle with a dropper or a pump is more suitable.

How to work with the set

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the sprayer, rinse them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water would dilute the fill and, in products without a preservative, shorten their shelf life.

The sprayer tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before fitting it, shorten it with a sharp knife or scissors so that its end reaches just above the bottom. A tube that is too long bends in the bottle and draws in air, while one that is too short leaves part of the fill unused.

Cut the tube at an angle. An angled cut does not stick to the bottom, and the sprayer empties the bottle almost completely.

Fill it up to the nominal volume, that is, the volume the packaging is designed for in normal use. The total brimful volume is slightly larger and serves as a reserve for the tube and the sprayer valve and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill the bottle up to the neck, part of the fill will overflow when you screw on the sprayer.

Good to know

  • Dose – one press releases approximately 0.07 ml. From this figure you can calculate how many applications the fill will last, or set the recommended dose of your own product.
  • Fill compatibility – PET tolerates water-based solutions and hydrosols well. With a fill containing a higher proportion of alcohol, undiluted essential oils or solvents, first test the bottle with your specific recipe and check whether it softens, changes colour or absorbs the fragrance.
  • Food and cosmetics – the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact, the sprayer does not. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetic and technical use.
  • Other closures – the bottle has the neck listed in the parameters, so it can also be used with other closures of the same type from the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and the behaviour of the closure with your specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the sprayer of polypropylene. Separate them before disposal so that they can be sorted as two different plastics.

The fill in the bottle is not sterile, even when the packaging has been thoroughly cleaned. Prepare sprays with a water base or with hydrosol and no preservative in small quantities and for short-term use.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber plastic bottle with a sprayer protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of PET reduces the transmission of light and slows down the changes that light causes in hydrosols, infusions or sprays with essential oils. It does not provide complete darkness, so store the bottle out of direct sunlight and label finished products with the date of production.
How much liquid fits in a 100 ml bottle with a sprayer?
The bottle is designed for a 100 ml fill, which is its nominal volume. Physically it holds slightly more, but this space serves as a reserve for the tube and the sprayer valve and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill it up to the brim, part of the fill will overflow when you screw on the sprayer.
Can the plastic bottle with a sprayer be reused?
Yes, the set is designed for repeated filling. Between fills, wash the bottle with warm water and washing-up liquid, rinse it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and let it dry. Pump clean water through the sprayer and then alcohol, so that no residues of the previous fill remain in the tube and the valve.
Is the sprayer suitable for oil-based or alcohol-based fills?
Oil fills do not pass through the sprayer; it is suitable only for liquids as thin as water. Water-alcohol mixtures, for example air fresheners or sprays for soap, are sprayed without problems. With a higher proportion of alcohol or undiluted essential oils, first check how the PET bottle reacts to the fill.
Is the plastic bottle and sprayer set approved for food contact?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. The bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact, while the sprayer does not have such a certificate. With the sprayer fitted, the set is intended for cosmetic and technical use, for example toners, hydrosols or working solutions in the workshop.
Why does the sprayer not spray after it is fitted?
Most often you need to press the sprayer several times until the tube and the valve fill with liquid. If it still does not spray, check whether the tube is bent in the bottle, whether it has been cut too short and does not reach below the liquid level, and whether the nozzle is blocked by residues of dried fill. Pumping clean water through it usually solves these problems.
