The 100 ml amber plastic medicine bottle with a glossy black and gold pump is a ready-made bottle and closure set for liquid cosmetic products that are dispensed in small amounts. How the bottle and pump work together

The pump is screwed onto the bottle and the dip tube reaches almost to the bottom. When the pump head is pressed, the product is drawn up through the dip tube and pushed out. You will find the volume of a single dose in the parameters; with a typical serum it corresponds to the amount for one application to the face. Thicker emulsions are pumped more slowly, so with a creamy consistency first check that the pump dispenses the product smoothly.

The clear overcap protects the pump head from dust and accidental pressing in a cosmetic bag, while the pump remains visible. The bottle should stand upright during use, because the dip tube draws from the bottom. A small remainder below the end of the dip tube cannot be pumped out. If you want to use the product to the last drop, unscrew the pump and pour out the remainder.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 100 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is larger. The difference provides a reserve for the dip tube of the pump, which takes up part of the space once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle overflows through the neck when the pump is screwed on.

Preparation and reuse

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. The pump is cleaned by pumping clean water through it and then air, so that no residue remains in the dip tube. When changing the product, especially from an oil to a water-based formulation, rinse the dip tube thoroughly, otherwise residues of the old contents will mix with the new.

Both the bottle and the pump can be used repeatedly, as long as the thread seals and the pump works smoothly. Each time the bottle is refilled, the same cleaning procedure applies as for the first use.

Good to know

PET withstands common cosmetic bases, oils and water-based formulations. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, solvents or aggressive chemicals, check in advance how the bottle behaves with the specific formulation. The bottle must not be exposed to heat, so do not fill it with hot contents. Let emulsions and oils cool before filling.
