Product description

A small amber PET bottle with a capacity of 10 ml and a white flip top cap make up a ready-made packaging set that can be filled straight after unpacking. The amber plastic reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so the set is especially suitable for facial and body oils, oil serums and blends whose ingredients lose stability in light. The cap opens with a single movement and the contents are dispensed through the opening drop by drop or in a small amount, without unscrewing. The bottle can therefore serve as a sample for customers, a travel size or a small reservoir for an oil that is used regularly throughout the day.

PET is light and, unlike glass, does not shatter when dropped, so you can send the bottle by post or carry it in a bag. Both the bottle and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the bottle has a separate certificate for direct food contact; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Oils and oil serums – liquid contents flow smoothly out of the opening in the cap, and the amber plastic protects oils prone to oxidation from light.
  • Essential oil blends in a carrier oil – diluted blends for massage, the bath or the skin can be dispensed drop by drop straight from the bottle.
  • Samples and travel sizes – a volume of 10 ml is enough to try out a product or for a few days of travel, and the flip top keeps the bottle closed even in a toiletry bag.
  • Liquid serums and toners – low-viscosity water-based formulations are dispensed through the opening in the same way as oils; you only need to tilt the bottle.

Filling and dispensing

The volume of 10 ml is the nominal volume, that is, the amount the bottle is designed to hold during normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference leaves room for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the contents will be pushed out when you close it.

Pour in the contents only after they have cooled. The bottle must be protected from heat; a hot oil phase or a freshly boiled infusion could deform it. With a 10 ml volume, filling with a small funnel or a syringe works well, so that the contents do not remain on the thread and the cap seats properly.

When using the bottle with a new formulation for the first time, fill one bottle, close it and leave it lying on its side on a paper towel for a day. You will see straight away whether the cap seals and whether the contents are dispensed through the opening the way you need.

The flip top cap dispenses liquid to medium-thick contents best. Thick creams, body butters or high-viscosity gels are hard to push through a small opening and dry out in the neck. For such formulations, a jar or a bottle with a different type of closure is more suitable.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the neck dilutes the contents and shortens the shelf life of an unpreserved cosmetic product.

The set can be reused. After emptying, wash the bottle with warm water and washing-up liquid, wash the cap separately and clean the opening so that no oil residue remains in it. Repeat the disinfection before refilling.

Do not expose the bottle to aggressive chemicals. For formulations with a high proportion of alcohol or solvents, we recommend checking how the plastic behaves on a single bottle before you fill the whole batch.

Do not fill this bottle with pure undiluted essential oils, nail polish removers or similar concentrated substances. The set is intended for blends diluted in a carrier oil or in a water phase.

The bottle has an 18 mm neck. If the flip top does not suit you, you will find closures with the same neck type as well as ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

The bottle is made of PET and the cap of PP. These are two different plastics, so separate them before recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber PET bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber plastic reduces the amount of light reaching the contents. The bottle is therefore suitable for vegetable oils prone to oxidation and for serums with light-sensitive ingredients. Even so, do not store it in direct sunlight and protect it from heat, so that both the contents and the packaging stay in good condition for as long as possible.
How much fits into a 10 ml bottle with a flip top cap?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not to the brim. The space between the nominal volume and the neck is a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill the bottle up to the neck, the contents will be pushed out through the opening in the cap when you close it and will soil the thread.
Can the plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a flip top cap be reused?
Yes, the set is intended for repeated filling. After emptying, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry. Pay attention to the opening in the cap, where oil residue remains. If the plastic turns cloudy or the cap stops sealing, replace the set.
Is the set of an amber PET bottle with a white flip top cap suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for food contact. Only the bottle has a separate certificate for direct food contact; the white flip top cap does not. The set is therefore intended for cosmetic products, for which both components are declared suitable.
Can I pour pure essential oils into the PET bottle?
We do not recommend it. The bottle should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals, and concentrated essential oils may be among them. Fill the set with blends diluted in a carrier oil or in a water phase. If you want to use a formulation with a higher proportion of alcohol or solvents, check how the plastic behaves on a single bottle first.
