Product description

The 30 ml glass bottle with a lotion pump with a black top is designed for serums, light creams, fluids and facial emulsions that are dispensed in small doses without fingers touching the contents. The clear glass shows the colour and the level of the filling, so you can see how much product remains. Each press of the pump dispenses a small measured amount and the contents do not spill. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What it is good for

  • Facial serums and concentrates – the small volume matches the usual consumption of active products that are applied in a few drops.
  • Light creams and fluids – emulsions with a liquid to medium-thick consistency pass through the pump without problems.
  • Eye creams and décolletage care – the dose from the pump is small enough for local application.
  • Samples, testers and travel packs – 30 ml lasts for several weeks of use and the bottle fits into a cosmetic bag.
  • Small-batch production – a clear bottle with a black top looks finished even with a simple label.

Thick creams, ointments and balms are not suitable for this set. The pump is designed for liquid and creamy contents and may not draw up a solid mass.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The total brimful volume, given in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them forms a reserve for the pump tube, which pushes part of the contents upwards when screwed on, and for the expansion of the filling with changes in temperature. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume. If it is overfilled, the contents leak out when closing and the pump does not screw on properly.

Fill thicker emulsions slowly and let them settle in the bottle for a moment so that air bubbles can escape. The level then does not drop after closing and the packaging will not look underfilled.

Dispensing and working with the pump

The pump dispenses approximately 0.14 ml per press, which is the amount for one application of serum or eye cream. For a usual facial treatment, one to two presses are enough. Before first use, the pump needs to be pressed several times to prime it until the tube fills and the contents start to come out.

The behaviour of the pump depends on the viscosity of the filling. Thin serums and oils come out easily, medium-thick creams need slightly more pressure. For your own formulation, we recommend filling one bottle as a trial and checking whether the pump works smoothly and whether the contents dry out at the opening. Water-based and emulsion formulations must be properly preserved, because air enters the bottle as the contents are drawn up.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump with clean water and let it dry. Residual water in the tube would dilute the first doses.

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Serums with vitamin C, retinoids, unstable oils or essential oils are better suited to amber or blue glass. If you use a clear bottle, store it in a box and out of direct sunlight.

The bottle can be reused. When changing the formulation, it is wiser to replace the pump, because residues of the previous contents are difficult to remove from the tube and the mechanism. For fillings with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking how the plastic parts of the pump behave after longer contact with the contents. The glass itself is resistant to most cosmetic raw materials. It tolerates sudden changes in temperature less well, so let a hot emulsion cool before filling.

The set is intended for cosmetics. If you need a different type of closure for the bottle, Handymade offers closures with the same neck finish as well as ready-made combinations. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

For recycling, unscrew the pump and discard it as plastic; the glass bottle belongs with glass.

Frequently asked questions

Is a clear glass bottle with a pump suitable for vitamin C serum?
Dark glass is more suitable for vitamin C serum, because clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Vitamin C and other light-sensitive substances degrade faster in clear packaging. If you want to use a clear bottle, store it in a box or in the dark and do not expose it to direct sunlight.
How much cream does a lotion pump dispense per press?
One press of the lotion pump dispenses approximately 0.14 ml of contents. One to two presses are enough for a usual application of serum or eye cream, while a face cream applied to the whole face may need more. The exact amount varies slightly with the thickness of the filling and the strength of the press.
Why is the 30 ml glass bottle with a pump not filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 30 ml, because the space above this level is taken up by the pump tube and the expansion of the contents. The total brimful volume is larger and is given in the parameters. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents spill out when the pump is screwed on and the thread may not tighten properly.
Can a glass bottle with a lotion pump be reused?
Yes, the glass bottle can be reused after washing and disinfecting with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. We recommend rinsing the pump with clean water and letting it dry, but when changing the formulation it is better to replace it with a new one. Residues of the old contents in the tube cannot be removed completely.
Is a lotion pump suitable for oils and thin serums?
Yes, the pump handles liquid contents including oils and thin serums, which pass through it easily. With very thin fillings, it is a good idea to test whether anything drips from the opening after pressing. Thick creams, balms and ointments are not suitable for this pump, because its mechanism may not draw them up.
