Product description
The 15 ml glass bottle with a lotion pump combines clear glass with a pump that dispenses a small, measured dose with every press. It suits eye creams, cream serums, light emulsions and lotions in travel or trial sizes, where precise dispensing matters and the contents should not be scooped out with fingers. The clear glass shows the colour and consistency of the contents, which is useful for coloured emulsions, creams with a pearlescent effect or samples you want to present to customers. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. It is not intended for food contact.
What it is suitable for
- Eye and face creams – the small amount per press matches the dose a customer actually applies, and the rest stays sealed in the bottle.
- Cream serums and light emulsions – thicker serums and fluids that would flow unevenly from a dropper are dispensed by the pump in a consistent amount.
- Samples and travel sizes – a glass bottle with a screw-on pump can also be carried in a cosmetics bag.
- Hygienic dispensing – the contents do not come into contact with fingers and air to the same extent as in a jar, which you will appreciate with emulsions containing active ingredients.
How the pump works
The pump draws the contents up through a dip tube from the bottom and dispenses approximately 0.14 ml with one press. After filling and screwing on the pump, press it several times until the tube fills and the first dose comes out. It works best with creams and emulsions of medium viscosity that run down the wall of the bottle. Solid balms, butters and thick anhydrous blends will not pass through the tube. Very thin serums or oils, on the other hand, may squirt from the pump, and a dropper is more suitable for those. If you are using your own formulation, we recommend checking the dispensing, tightness and behaviour of the contents in the packaging before filling the entire batch.
The pump’s dip tube is often longer than the height of the bottle. If it bends against the bottom after screwing on, shorten it with sharp scissors so that it ends just above the bottom. The pump then draws up the contents right to the end and a minimum of residue is left in the bottle.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling, in this case 15 ml. The brimful volume is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck and can be found in the parameters. The difference between the two values leaves room for the dip tube, for the air above the contents and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle will overflow when the pump is screwed on, and the pump may become flooded.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the pump in warm water with detergent, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely. It is enough to flush the tube with alcohol and pump it through.
- Filling – pour or press the emulsion into the bottle only after it has cooled to room temperature. The volume of the contents changes as they cool, and the level would not be right once the pump is screwed on.
- Light – clear glass lets light through. Store emulsions with sensitive ingredients, for example vitamin C, retinoids or a high proportion of unsaturated oils, in a box or out of direct light. If protection from light is essential for the formulation, amber or blue glass will be more suitable.
- Pump plastic – the pump is made of polypropylene, which withstands common cosmetic emulsions. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend testing in advance whether the seal and the tube change over time.
- Reuse – after washing and disinfection, the glass can be filled again; the pump is flushed and pumped through. If residues of cream become trapped in the tube, replace the pump.
- Recycling – the glass bottle belongs in glass recycling; the pump is made of PP plastic and is sorted separately.
The pump limits contact between the contents and fingers, but it does not replace a preservative. A cream or emulsion with a water phase must be preserved in this packaging too, because air gets into the bottle with every press.
