Product description

Plastic bottle with flip-top cap with a volume of 100 ml is a ready-to-use set for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products dispensed in smaller amounts: shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, body lotions or facial tonics. The bottle and cap share the same neck type, so the closure does not need to be selected separately.

The bottle is made of clear PET, a lightweight plastic suitable for the bathroom, shower and travel. Through the transparent wall you can see the colour of the product and how much remains. The flip top cap opens with one hand by flipping the lid, which stays attached to the closure and cannot be lost.

Which products is the set suitable for

The dispensing opening in the cap determines which consistencies work well with the bottle. Products that flow on their own or can be squeezed out with gentle pressure on the bottle pass through it most easily.

  • Shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps – the opening dispenses a smaller amount at a time and the bottle can be operated with a wet hand.
  • Body and facial lotions, light emulsions – thinner emulsions flow smoothly, thicker ones need to be squeezed out by pressing the bottle.
  • Tonics, micellar waters and hydrolats – water-based products are dispensed by tilting the bottle directly onto a cotton pad.
  • Body, massage and cleansing oils – the small opening prevents dispensing too much at once.
  • Travel sizes and samples – the smaller volume and lightweight material are suited for decanting from larger containers for travel.

The set is not suitable for thick creams, butters or balms. They will not pass through the narrow opening and cannot be retrieved from a tall bottle. A jar is more practical for these.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for during standard filling. Total volume is the physical volume up to the top of the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them serves as a reserve for the closure and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes.

The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The air headspace below the neck prevents the contents from leaking through the thread when the cap is applied or when the bottle is warmed.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. It is recommended to wash the bottle and cap with lukewarm water and detergent, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Water residues in the packaging unnecessarily burden the preservation of the product.

Heat sensitivity. PET deforms at higher temperatures, so the bottle should not be boiled or sterilised with hot air.

Products prepared hot are filled into the bottle only after cooling. Hot contents may cause the bottle wall to ripple or change shape.

Compatibility with contents. Both PET and PP are compatible with standard water-based, surfactant, emulsion and oil cosmetic products. With a high proportion of essential oils or strong solvents, a test sample is recommended: fill the packaging and leave it for several weeks, checking whether the plastic becomes cloudy, softens or whether the cap stops sealing.

Light. The clear material does not protect the contents from light, which should be taken into account for light-sensitive products.

Label. The tall bottle provides sufficient surface area for a label. The dimensions needed for its design are listed in the parameters of the individual components of the set.

Contact with cosmetics. The bottle and cap are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set is intended for cosmetics, not for food.

Other closures. Closures with the same neck type (specified in the parameters) and further ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. Swapping makes sense when the dispensing method of the product changes. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing and packaging behaviour with the specific formulation, especially for very thin or conversely thicker products.

Frequently asked questions

Is the plastic bottle with flip-top cap suitable for thick creams?
No, the plastic bottle with flip-top cap is not suitable for thick creams, butters or balms. The dispensing opening is designed for products that flow or can be squeezed out with gentle pressure on the bottle, such as shampoos, gels, lotions, tonics and oils. A thick cream cannot be retrieved without residue from a tall bottle; a jar is more practical.
Does the clear PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, a clear PET bottle transmits light and does not protect the contents from it. Products containing vegetable oils prone to oxidation, extracts or natural colourants should therefore be stored in a cupboard or drawer, not on a windowsill or in direct sunlight.
Can oils and essential oils be filled into the PET bottle with flip-top cap?
Yes, standard cosmetic oils can be filled into a PET bottle with a PP cap. Caution is warranted with a high proportion of essential oils and strong solvents, which may degrade the plastic over time. In such cases it is recommended to fill a test sample and monitor for several weeks whether the plastic becomes cloudy, softens or whether the cap still seals.
How much product fits into the 100 ml plastic bottle?
The bottle is designed for 100 ml of product, which is its nominal volume. Physically, a little more fits up to the brim, but this space serves as a reserve for the closure and content expansion. When filling by weight, density must be taken into account: 100 ml of oil weighs less than 100 g, 100 ml of shampoo typically slightly more.
Can the plastic bottle with flip-top cap be reused?
Yes, the bottle and cap can be washed and refilled after emptying. Wash with lukewarm water and detergent, disinfect and allow to dry completely. The dispensing opening and the lid hinge require attention, as product residues tend to collect there. Boiling water should not be used, as PET deforms with heat.
