Product description
A glass bottle with a white spray pump in a volume of 15 ml is a small set for liquid preparations applied by fine misting. It is particularly suitable for facial toners, hydrolats, eau de parfum and refreshing sprays, as well as for samples or travel sizes of larger products. Glass does not react with the contents and does not absorb scent; the pump dispenses a small amount evenly onto skin, hair or fabric.
The transparent bottle shows the contents and the remaining amount, which is practical for coloured hydrolats, toners or eau de parfum. However, it does not provide light protection, so the set is primarily suitable for contents that are not light-sensitive, or for products intended for quick use. Both the bottle and the spray pump are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity can be found with the product.
What the set is suitable for
- Facial toners and hydrolats – thin aqueous solutions are applied by the spray pump as a fine mist; no wiping is needed and the dose is easy to control.
- Eau de parfum and fragrance sprays – alcohol-based solutions keep well in glass, and the small volume is suitable for fragrance samples, testers or handbag sizes.
- Hair and body sprays – light refreshing or fragrance sprays without an oil phase, or thin water-alcohol blends.
- Samples and travel sizes – decant part of a larger pack into the bottle and have the product to hand when travelling or testing a new formula.
How the spray pump dispenses
The plastic spray pump works mechanically, without a propellant gas. Pressing the head draws liquid through the dip tube from the bottom of the bottle and forces it through the nozzle as a fine mist. The dose per press is small and repeatable; the exact value can be found in the specifications. Consumption can thus be estimated and the product is applied gradually, without spillage.
The spray pump is intended for low-viscosity liquids: aqueous solutions, hydrolats, alcohol-based solutions and very thin water-glycerin blends. Thick serums, emulsions and oils will not be sprayed evenly by the nozzle; it is more likely to produce a stream or clog. If the contents contain an oil phase, test the spray pump's behaviour on a small trial batch before filling a full series.
Before first use, press the head several times without content until the dip tube and mechanism fill with liquid. The dip tube of the spray pump is longer than the bottle, so trim it at an angle so that it ends just above the bottom and draws up even the last millilitres.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed for during normal filling, and the set is labelled accordingly. The total brim-full volume is the physical capacity right up to the neck and is always slightly larger. The difference forms a reserve for the dip tube and the pump body, which take up some space once screwed in, and for the slight expansion of the contents with temperature change. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Filling right to the neck would cause the contents to be forced out when the spray pump is fitted and could seep into the thread.
Good to know
- Preparation before filling – before the first and every subsequent use, wash the bottle and spray pump, rinse and disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, then leave to dry completely. Residual water would dilute the contents and reduce preservation efficacy; traces of previous fragrance or preservative would affect the new contents.
- Preservation of aqueous contents – toners and hydrolats in the spray pump are protected from direct finger contact, but it is still an aqueous system that requires a preservative unless intended for immediate use.
- Alcohol-based solutions – glass does not react with them and the polypropylene spray pump tolerates them well. With a high proportion of essential oils in the fragrance composition, check whether the nozzle becomes sticky over time.
- For alcohol-based contents, choose an alcohol-resistant adhesive.
- Recycling – separate the glass bottle and the plastic spray pump before disposal; glass goes with glass and the polypropylene pump goes with plastics.
The set is intended for cosmetic preparations. Neither the bottle nor the spray pump has certification for contact with food, so do not use it for cooking oils, syrups or beverages.
