Product description
This blue glass bottle with a black aluminium cap is intended for filling with cosmetics that are poured out and should not be exposed to light. Blue glass reduces some of the light reaching the contents, which helps face and massage oils, oil serums, tinctures and blends with essential oils keep their scent and quality for longer. The 100 ml volume corresponds to a common retail pack size, so the bottle also suits smaller production batches.
The set is supplied as a medicine bottle together with a screw cap, and the bottle has an 18/410 neck finish. Both the bottle and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.
Bottle and cap
- Blue glass – reduces the amount of light that reaches the contents. The contents remain partly visible, so you can see the level both when filling and when using the bottle.
- Aluminium cap with liner – sits on the neck over a foam polyethylene (EPE) liner, which evens out small irregularities in the neck and ensures a tight seal.
- Black cap colour – contrasts with the blue glass and is easy to match with the other packaging in the range.
- 18/410 neck finish – a common neck type that also fits other closures with the same thread.
Volume and filling
The nominal volume of the bottle is 100 ml. This is the volume the packaging is designed for in normal filling and the amount stated as the content. The brimful capacity given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the top of the neck. The difference between the two values leaves room for the cap or another closure and for the contents to expand when the temperature changes.
Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Oils and alcohol-based blends expand slightly as the temperature rises. A bottle filled to the neck may press on the cap liner once screwed on, or overflow when opened.
What it is suitable for
It is most often filled with face and body oils, oil serums and massage blends, that is, products dispensed by pouring a few drops into the palm. Blue glass also suits alcohol-based tinctures and extracts, hydrosols and toners that are poured onto a cotton pad. With water-based and hydrosol products, keep in mind that the packaging does not replace preservation. The formulation itself must be preserved.
The cap is suitable wherever the user pours out the contents and does not need precise drop-by-drop dispensing. For serums with more expensive active ingredients that are dispensed by the drop, the bottle is combined with a dropper with the same thread. You will find closures with an 18/410 neck finish and ready-made bottle and closure combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual water in an oil product encourages the growth of microorganisms and makes the contents cloudy. It is enough to wipe the cap with disinfectant and leave it to air; do not soak the liner.
Glass does not react with the contents, so after thorough washing the bottle can be reused. Before reusing the cap, check the liner. If it is compressed, soaked with oil or deformed, replace the cap, otherwise the bottle will not seal.
Do not pour hot blends into the bottle and do not expose it to sudden temperature changes. Glass may crack when the temperature difference is abrupt. Before filling with warmer contents, let the bottle warm up to room temperature and fill it only with the product once it has cooled.
Concentrated essential oils and blends with a high alcohol content may affect the cap liner over time. With such contents we recommend testing the seal on one bottle for several weeks and only then filling the whole batch. Dispose of the empty bottle in glass recycling and the aluminium cap with liner in metal recycling, according to the rules in your municipality.
