Product description

A square glass bottle with a black aluminium cap is a ready-made combination of container and closure for oils, serums and tinctures that are sensitive to light. The square bottle made of amber glass with a capacity of 90 ml reduces light exposure, and the black aluminium cap with a sealing insert closes it securely. Glass does not react with the contents, so the set can also be used for blends containing essential oils and alcohol, where plastic containers are not always suitable. The square shape gives the bottle stability on the shelf and flat walls that hold labels well.

What the set offers

  • Protection of contents from light – amber glass lets through significantly less light than clear glass, which slows down changes in scent and colour in oils, essential oils and plant extracts.
  • Glass resistance to contents – glass does not absorb scent or dye and releases nothing into the contents that would alter its properties. The bottle is therefore also suitable for alcohol-based and strongly aromatic formulations.
  • Easy closing – the aluminium cap has an inner insert made of foam polyethylene, which seats onto the neck when tightened and seals it. The black cap complements the amber glass.
  • Square shape – the bottle stands firmly, can be stored efficiently side by side, and its flat walls make it easy to apply labels without wrinkling.
  • Reusable – both glass and aluminium withstand repeated washing and disinfection, so the set can serve for multiple production batches.

Nominal and total volume

Each container has two distinct volumes. Nominal volume is the quantity the container is designed for during standard filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is always larger. The difference between them provides a reserve for the closure or dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

When filling, leave free space in the neck. This way, after the cap is placed on, the contents do not overflow onto the thread and the sealing insert remains clean, which is important for a tight seal when opening and closing repeatedly.

What the set is suitable for

  • Oil serums and face oils – the narrower neck allows careful pouring, and the bottle can later be fitted with a dropper of the same neck type.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass is resistant to alcohol and the screw cap keeps the contents sealed even with more volatile blends.
  • Tonics and hydrolats – water-based formulations are stored in amber glass without light exposure. However, preservation of the formulation itself must be taken into account.
  • Perfume and hair oils – the 90 ml capacity is practical for products that are dispensed drop by drop or in small amounts and are used over a longer period.
  • Samples and smaller batches – the square bottle is suitable for trial runs where the contents need to be labelled and stored safely.

This set is not practical for thick creams and butters. The narrower neck does not allow comfortable scooping; jars are more suitable for these.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and cap, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in the bottle can impair the stability of anhydrous and oil-based products.
  • Tightening the cap – the aluminium cap only needs to be tightened by hand. Excessive force will not improve the seal; it only strains the thin aluminium and the sealing insert.
  • Checking the seal – for alcohol-based and very thin contents, we recommend laying the filled bottle on its side for several hours before a larger batch. The behaviour of the insert with a specific formulation may vary.
  • Other closures – closures with the same neck type as stated in the specifications fit this bottle. Ready-made container + closure combinations and individual droppers or sprayers can be found in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation.
  • Use – the set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity can be found with the product. The set is intended for cosmetics.
  • Recycling – glass belongs in glass waste; the aluminium cap should be unscrewed before disposal and sorted separately as metal.

Do not pour hot contents into the glass bottle and do not expose it to sudden temperature changes. Glass may crack under thermal shock; fill oil-based and emulsion products only after they have cooled.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber glass of the 90 ml bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass lets through significantly less light than clear glass and therefore slows down changes in scent, colour and the oxidation of sensitive ingredients. It is suitable for vegetable oils, essential oils and extracts that lose quality more quickly when exposed to light. Protection is further enhanced by storing away from direct sunlight.
Why is a 90 ml glass bottle not filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 90 ml, because the space above it serves as a reserve for the closure and for the expansion of the contents. If filled to the brim, the contents will be forced onto the thread when the cap is applied, contaminating the sealing insert and reducing the quality of the seal.
Can the glass bottle with an aluminium cap be reused?
Yes, both glass and the aluminium cap withstand repeated washing and disinfection. Before the next filling, wash the bottle, disinfect with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry. Check that the sealing insert in the cap is not damaged or saturated with the previous contents. If so, replace the cap.
Is the square glass bottle suitable for tinctures and essential oils?
Yes, glass is resistant to both alcohol and essential oils and does not react with them, making it more suitable than most plastics for tinctures, alcohol extracts and aromatic oils. For strongly volatile blends, we recommend verifying the seal of the cap with the specific formulation, as the sealing insert also comes into contact with the contents.
What closure fits the 90 ml glass bottle besides the aluminium cap?
All closures with the same neck type as stated in the specifications fit the bottle. For oil serums, a dropper is often used; for tonics, a sprayer. When changing the closure, it is advisable to verify the seal and dispensing, as each type of closure behaves differently with the contents.
Is the aluminium cap leak-proof with oily contents?
When tightened correctly by hand, the cap with the foam polyethylene insert seals oily contents. It is important that the thread and neck remain clean. Oil on the thread reduces the seal and makes opening more difficult. Transport the bottle upright and verify the seal before a larger batch.
