Product description

This white plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a capacity of 10 ml and a glossy white and silver pump is a set for small quantities of serums, fluids and light emulsions that are dispensed in doses without touching them with your fingers. The white opaque PET hides the contents and limits light exposure. The bottle is lightweight and unbreakable, so it suits samples, travel packs or testing a formulation in a small batch. The pump with an 18/415 neck finish fits the G18x3 neck of the bottle, and the set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What it is suitable for

  • Face and eye serums – the liquid consistency passes through the dip tube without resistance, and one dose corresponds to the amount needed for a single application around the eyes or on the face.
  • Light emulsions and fluids – thin O/W creams and milks that the pump dispenses without problems and that spread quickly on the skin.
  • Oil serums and blends of vegetable oils – dispensing in doses limits the contact of the oil with air and with hands, compared with an open bottle.
  • Samples – the customer tries the product in the same way as they will use it from the full-size pack.
  • Travel packs – a small volume and plastic that will not crack in a cosmetic bag.

Using the pump

One press of the pump releases approximately 0.14 ml of the contents. With a standard serum, this corresponds to the amount for a single application on the face or around the eyes. With oils, one dose is often enough, and with fluids two to three. After filling and screwing on the pump, prime it by pressing it several times until the dip tube and the head fill and the contents start to come out. Proceed in the same way after a longer break in use.

A mechanical pump with a dip tube works with liquid and slightly viscous formulations. A thick cream or balm will not be drawn up through the tube. Emulsions with solid particles, for example scrub particles, may block the valve. With very thin aqueous solutions, for example toners, it is worth checking that the dose does not drip from the head after pressing. We recommend testing how the pump behaves with your specific formulation on one piece before filling an entire batch.

Before assembling for the first time, compare the length of the dip tube with the height of the bottle. The tube is supplied longer and is shortened with a straight cut using a sharp knife so that it ends just above the bottom. A tube bent against the bottom does not draw up as well, and some of the contents remain in the bottle.

Nominal volume and filling

The nominal volume is the amount the pharmaceutical bottle is designed for with standard filling. The physical volume up to the neck is larger. The difference provides a reserve for the dip tube and the lower part of the pump, which take up space in the bottle once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the contents will overflow through the neck when the pump is fitted.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. The pump is rinsed by immersing the dip tube in the disinfecting solution, pumping the solution through several times and then pumping air through in the same way until nothing comes out of the head. When reusing the bottle, repeat the procedure and check that the pump dispenses evenly after rinsing.

PET withstands vegetable oils as well as aqueous and emulsion formulations. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or with solvents, we recommend checking how the material behaves on a test piece, as aggressive ingredients may soften or discolour the plastic. Let the contents cool to room temperature before filling.

Only the plastic pharmaceutical bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The pump does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics and should not be used for food purposes, such as oils or syrups.

The bottle is made of PET and belongs in sorted plastic waste. The pump combines polypropylene with aluminium and is unscrewed from the bottle before disposal. Closures with the same neck type, as well as ready-made bottle and closure combinations, can be found in the Handymade range. If you combine parts yourself, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 10 ml plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a pump suitable for contact with food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for food contact. Only the white plastic 10 ml pharmaceutical bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The 18/415 pump does not have one and is intended for cosmetics. The assembled combination is therefore used for serums, oils and emulsions, not for food products.
How much of the contents does one press of the pump on the 10 ml pharmaceutical bottle release?
One press releases approximately 0.14 ml. With a serum or an oil blend, this dose corresponds to the amount for a single application on the face or around the eyes. The actual dose depends on the viscosity of the contents and on whether the head is pressed all the way down, so it is worth weighing several doses at the first filling.
Can the pump on the pharmaceutical bottle also dispense a thick cream?
No, a mechanical pump with a dip tube is designed for liquid and slightly viscous formulations. A thick cream, butter or balm will not be drawn up through the tube and nothing will come out of the head. For creams, choose a jar or a bottle with a closure without a dip tube. For serums, fluids and light O/W emulsions, the pump works without problems.
Does the white plastic pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the white opaque PET hides the contents and limits light exposure compared with clear plastic or glass. This is an advantage for oils prone to oxidation and for serums with light-sensitive ingredients. Opaque packaging alone does not provide complete protection, so keep the contents out of direct sunlight.
How do I prepare a pharmaceutical bottle with a pump before the first filling?
Wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry without wiping. Rinse the pump by pumping the disinfecting solution through the dip tube, then pump air through until nothing comes out of the head. After filling the bottle, screw on the pump and prime it by pressing it several times so that the dip tube fills with the contents.
