Product description

The glass bottle with pump, 10 ml, is intended for small quantities of cosmetics that are applied in drops: face serums, oils for the face, lips or cuticles, liquid active concentrates and samples. With each press the pump releases the same small dose, so the contents are measured precisely and fingers do not come into contact with the neck. White glass is opaque and reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate with oils and serums containing light-sensitive substances.

The set consists of a white glass medicine bottle and a plastic pump in a white and silver glossy finish made of polypropylene and aluminium. Both parts are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What it is suitable for

  • Face serums and concentrates – the pump dispenses water-based and oil-based serums of low to medium viscosity smoothly; one dose is usually enough for one application to the face.
  • Oils for the face, lips and cuticles – a small volume is used up before the oil has time to change its odour, and the pump limits the access of air to the remaining contents.
  • Samples and travel sizes – the bottle fits into a cosmetic bag and the pump does not leak as easily as an open dropper.
  • Light emulsions – thin fluids pass through the dip tube and the valve, while thick creams and balms cannot be drawn up.

Volume and filling

Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is intended for under normal filling. Total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between the two forms a reserve for the dip tube and the pump body, which take up part of the space once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle up to the nominal volume. A bottle filled to the brim will overflow over the thread once the pump is fitted.

The pump dip tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before first use, shorten it with an angled cut so that it reaches just above the bottom. A straight-cut end that sits flat against the bottom draws up the contents less well.

Using the pump

One press releases in the order of tenths of a millilitre; you will find the exact dose in the parameters. For serums this corresponds to one application, while for face oils two to three presses are commonly used. After filling and screwing on the pump, prime it by pressing it several times until the dip tube fills.

The reliability of dispensing is determined by the viscosity of the contents. Water-based solutions, hydrosols with active ingredients, oils and thin emulsions work without difficulty. Try products with a gel texture in a single bottle first, and only then fill the whole batch. The contents below the level of the dip tube cannot be drawn up, but at this volume it is a negligible amount.

Formulations with solid particles, scrub grains or undissolved powder do not belong in the pump. The particles block the valve and the dose stops being even.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, rinse it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely upside down. It is enough to rinse the pump with clean water and leave it to dry. Residual water in the dip tube would cause cloudiness in oil-based contents.

Glass does not absorb the scent or colour of the contents and withstands essential oils and alcoholic tinctures. The polypropylene dip tube and pump body resist most cosmetic raw materials, but with high concentrations of essential oils or solvents, check the behaviour of the pump with your specific formulation. Let hot contents cool before filling, as sudden changes in temperature are not good for glass.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. It is not approved for contact with food, so do not use it for homemade oils, syrups or infusions.

Once the contents are used up, the bottle can be washed and reused. Replace the pump whenever you change the type of contents or when the dose becomes irregular. Glass belongs in sorted waste, while the pump is harder to recycle because it combines plastic and metal.

The bottle is also sold separately with a different closure. You will find closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters, as well as ready-made combinations, in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the white glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, white glass is opaque and reduces the amount of light reaching the contents considerably better than clear glass. This is an advantage for oils prone to oxidation and for serums with vitamin C or retinol, but protect the contents from long-term direct sunlight by storing them in a dark place as well. The level cannot be seen through white glass, so the remaining contents are estimated from the weight of the bottle.
How many doses does the 10 ml bottle with pump deliver?
With a dose in the order of tenths of a millilitre, a full bottle delivers several dozen presses. The exact dose of one press is stated in the parameters, and you can calculate the number of doses from it according to how many presses you use for one application. The pump cannot draw up the small amount of contents below the level of the dip tube.
Can the glass bottle with pump be used for oil?
Yes, face oils and oil-based serums are typical contents for this set. Glass does not absorb the scent of the oil, and the pump copes with thin and medium-thick oils. Very thick oils, such as castor oil, are pumped more slowly, the dip tube takes longer to fill and the dose may be smaller during the first few presses.
Why does the pump not dispense after filling?
Most often because the dip tube is not yet filled or was not shortened to the height of the bottle. After screwing on the pump, prime it by pressing it several times until the contents rise up the dip tube. If the dip tube reaches all the way to the bottom and sticks to it, shorten it with an angled cut so that the end does not close off.
Is the 10 ml glass bottle with pump suitable for water-based serums and hydrosols?
Yes, water-based serums, toners with active ingredients and hydrosols have low viscosity and are easy to dispense. Water-based contents must be properly preserved. The pump limits the access of air and fingers, but it does not protect against microbial contamination on its own. Before filling, the bottle and the dip tube must be dry and clean.
Can the bottle with pump be washed and reused?
Yes, it is enough to wash the glass bottle, disinfect it with alcohol and leave it to dry. The pump is rinsed with clean water and then pumped until it runs dry, but the inside of the valve cannot be cleaned completely. If you change the contents from oil to a water-based serum, or if the dose is irregular, fit a new pump.
