Product description

A single press of the pump on this bottle dispenses a serum, fluid or light emulsion, always in roughly the same dose. The clear PET medicine bottle with a volume of 50 ml and the glossy white and silver pump make a ready-to-use set for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products that are applied in small amounts. The contents do not spill and fingers do not get into the bottle during use, which reduces the risk of contamination in emulsions and serums.

Clear plastic shows both the colour and the remaining amount of the contents. The bottle is light and does not break when dropped, so it is also suitable for travel or the bathroom. The glossy white and silver pump gives even a homemade product the look of a finished product. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Serums and fluids – a small dose from the pump corresponds to the amount normally applied to the face and neck.
  • Light creams and lotions – medium-thickness emulsions that pass smoothly through the pump and do not need to be scooped out of a jar.
  • Gel and water-based products – aloe gels, moisturising gels, liquid make-up primers.
  • Oil serums for the face, nails or beard – in the clear bottle you can see how much oil is left.
  • Samples and travel sizes – the 50 ml volume and the unbreakable material are suitable for trial batches or for products in hand luggage.

Dispensing and filling

The pump releases approximately 0.14 ml of the contents per press. The actual dose depends on the thickness of the product, so we recommend measuring it for your own formulation. The dip tube reaches almost to the bottom of the bottle, so nearly all of the contents can be used up.

After filling the bottle and screwing on the pump, press the pump several times to prime it until the dip tube and the mechanism fill and the product starts to come out. This step is repeated with every new filling.

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is larger, and the difference serves as a reserve for the pump’s dip tube and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise part of the contents is pushed out when the pump is screwed on.

Fill the bottle with a funnel or a syringe and wipe the neck before attaching the pump so that the thread stays clean and seals properly. Let emulsions cool to room temperature before filling.

The pump is not intended for very thick ointments and butters. The dip tube may draw in air and the dose will be irregular. With thicker creams, test a single unit first to check whether the pump draws in the texture and dispenses evenly.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Rinse the pump by pressing it several times in clean water and then in the disinfectant solution so that the dip tube and the internal mechanism are cleaned as well.

The set can be used repeatedly. When changing the contents, wash the dip tube and the pump thoroughly, as residues of the old product would otherwise spoil the new filling.

PET is a common packaging plastic for water-based and oil-based cosmetic products. For products with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the material on a single unit before filling a larger batch. The same applies to the plastic and aluminium parts of the pump.

Only the bottle has a certificate for direct contact with food. The pump does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics, not for food use.

A bottle with the same type of neck finish can also be combined with other closures from the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and the dispensing with your specific formulation.

The bottle belongs in sorted plastic waste. The pump combines polypropylene with an aluminium part, so unscrew it before recycling and hand it in separately from the bottle.

Frequently asked questions

Is the clear 50 ml PET bottle with a pump suitable for serums containing oils?
Yes, the set is suitable for both oil-based and emulsion serums. Clear PET is commonly used for cosmetic oils, and the small dose from the pump corresponds to the amount for a single application. For serums with a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend testing the behaviour of the plastic on a single unit before filling a larger quantity.
Does the clear plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, the clear bottle does not protect the contents from light. Clear plastic lets daylight through, so it is suitable for products that are not sensitive to light, or for products stored in a cabinet or in a box. For formulations with sensitive active ingredients, choose dark packaging.
How much of the contents does the pump dispense per press?
The pump releases approximately 0.14 ml per press, which is a small dose suitable for serums, fluids and light emulsions. The actual amount depends on the thickness of the product, so for your own recipe we recommend weighing or measuring the dose. With thick creams, the dose may be smaller or irregular.
Why should the bottle not be filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume because the space above it serves as a reserve for the pump’s dip tube and for the expansion of the contents. If the bottle is filled up to the neck, the contents are pushed out through the thread when the pump is screwed on. For this bottle, the nominal volume is 50 ml.
Can the bottle and pump set be washed and used again?
Yes, both the bottle and the pump are designed for repeated use. Wash both parts, rinse the pump by pressing it several times in clean water and then in isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and let it dry. When changing the type of product, clean especially the dip tube and the pump mechanism, where residues of the contents remain.
Is the set also approved for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the bottle has a certificate for direct contact with food; the pump does not have such a certificate. For homemade oils or syrups, therefore, use a bottle with a closure that is declared as suitable for food.
