Product description

The amber plastic medicine bottle with a capacity of 50 ml and a pump with an 18/415 neck finish is a ready-to-use packaging set for cosmetics dispensed in small amounts: facial serums, active ingredient solutions, light emulsions or facial oils. Amber PET reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so it is also suitable for formulations containing light-sensitive ingredients, for example vitamins or plant oils prone to oxidation. The bottle is lightweight and shatter-resistant, the pump delivers a similar amount with each press and the contents do not spill during use. The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial serums and active ingredient solutions – liquid to slightly viscous formulations are dispensed precisely and the contents do not come into contact with your fingers.
  • Facial and hair oils – the amber bottle protects oil blends from light and a measured press replaces drop-by-drop dispensing.
  • Light emulsions and fluids – thin creams, milks and day emulsions with low viscosity pass through the dip tube without problems.
  • Smaller packs and samples – the 50 ml capacity corresponds to the usual pack size of a serum or facial oil.

How the pump works

The pump draws the contents up through a dip tube from the bottom of the bottle and delivers approximately 0.14 ml with one press. For a facial serum or oil, one to two presses are enough; for a body oil, you press several times. When using the pump for the first time, prime it with several presses until the dip tube and the mechanism fill with the contents.

The mechanism is designed for liquid to medium-viscosity formulations. A thick cream or balm will not be drawn up by the pump, or it will be dispensed unevenly. The pump combines polypropylene and aluminium in a white and silver glossy finish; the dip tube is made of clear plastic.

If the dip tube extends past the bottom of the bottle and bends after screwing on the pump, shorten it with an angled cut so that it reaches just to the bottom. The angled end does not seal against the bottom, so the pump draws up more of the contents.

Nominal volume and filling

The nominal volume of 50 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for with normal filling. Physically it can hold more, because space remains above the liquid level for the dip tube and the pump mechanism, along with a reserve for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill it to the nominal volume, not to the neck. An overfilled bottle overflows after the pump is screwed on and the first doses are inaccurate.

Good to know

  • Preparation before the first filling – wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the dip tube dilutes the first doses and can weaken the preservative system.
  • Filling temperature – protect the bottle from heat. Let emulsions and oils cool to room temperature before filling.
  • Essential oils and solvents – for formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or other solvents, we recommend testing in advance how the plastic and the pump mechanism behave with your specific formulation.
  • Other closures – closures with the same neck type as this bottle and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you combine parts yourself, we recommend checking the seal and the dispensing.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and belongs in plastics. The pump combines polypropylene with aluminium, so unscrew it before disposal and sort it separately.

Only the bottle has its own certificate for direct food contact. The pump does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Do not use it for homemade oils, syrups or infusions.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber plastic medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET limits the amount of light reaching the contents. It is therefore suitable for serums with vitamin C or retinol, plant oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids and other formulations whose shelf life is shortened by light. Protection from light does not replace an antioxidant or a preservative; it only supports the stability of the formulation.
How much product does the 18/415 pump deliver per press?
One press delivers approximately 0.14 ml. For a facial serum or oil, one or two presses are enough; for a body oil, the pump is pressed several times. This amount applies to liquid formulations with low viscosity. With thicker emulsions, the dose may be smaller or uneven.
Can the plastic medicine bottle with a pump be used for an oil serum?
Yes, oil serums and pure plant oils are a typical use for this set. The oil passes through the dip tube without problems and the amber bottle protects it from light. For blends with a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend checking before making a larger batch that the pump mechanism and the plastic of the bottle can withstand the contents in the long term.
Is the plastic medicine bottle with a pump suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the amber bottle has its own certificate for direct food contact; the pump does not carry such a declaration. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics and is intended for that purpose.
Can the plastic medicine bottle with a pump be reused?
Yes, once empty, the bottle and the pump can be washed and used again. Rinse the dip tube and the mechanism with warm water or a mild cleaning product, then disinfect with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and leave to dry. If the pump dispenses unevenly after cleaning or remains clogged with oil residue, replace it with a new one.
