Product description
The white glass medicine bottle with a 100 ml volume and a black and gold glossy pump with a clear overcap is used for filling serums, facial oils and light emulsions that are applied in small doses. The white opaque glass limits the amount of light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate especially with vegetable oils and serums containing active ingredients sensitive to oxidation. The pump always dispenses the same amount, so the customer does not have to deal with dripping, spilling or finger contact with the contents.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. It is not intended for food use.
What it is suitable for
The pump is designed for liquid to medium-viscosity formulations that it draws up and dispenses without problems:
- Facial and body serums – both water-based and oil-based, dosed with one or two presses.
- Facial and hair oils – white glass slows down the yellowing and rancidity of oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids.
- Light emulsions and fluids – face milks, moisturising fluids and creams with lower viscosity.
- Liquid make-up bases and primers – a small dose makes precise application easier.
The pump cannot reliably draw up thick creams, butters or gels with high viscosity. A jar or a bottle with a cap is a better choice for such products.
How the pump works
One press dispenses approximately 0.3 ml of the contents. This amount corresponds to a common dose of facial serum or oil, while body products require several presses. The pump tube reaches almost to the bottom of the bottle, but no pump can draw up the very last residue. This small unusable residue must be taken into account when calculating the number of doses the customer gets from the pack.
The clear overcap covers the pump head and protects it from dust and accidental pressing during transport or in a cosmetic bag. At the same time, it allows you to see the colour of the pump and any product residue in the orifice.
Before first use, the pump needs to be primed by pressing it several times until the tube fills and the pump starts dispensing the contents. It is worth including this information on the label or in the instructions for customers.
Filling and volume
The nominal volume of the bottle is 100 ml. The total brimful volume, that is the physical volume up to the neck, is slightly larger. The difference between the two values is a reserve for the tube and the pump body, which take up part of the space once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If filled up to the neck, part of the contents would be pushed out when the pump is fitted.
Fill the bottle with contents cooled to room temperature. Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well, and a hot emulsion or oil could create excess pressure after the pump is fitted, pushing the contents out through the pump.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Pump a little disinfectant solution through the pump and then air, so that no liquid remains in the tube.
- Reuse – the glass bottle can be washed and used again. Product residues remain in the tube and the pump mechanism, so when changing the formulation we recommend replacing the pump with a new one or pumping it through very thoroughly and drying it.
- Compatibility with the contents – the pump is made of polypropylene and aluminium. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the pump with your specific recipe, especially its tightness and the durability of the glossy finish.
- Water-based products – water-based serums and hydrosols must be preserved regardless of the packaging. The pump limits contact of the contents with fingers, but it does not replace a preservative system.
- Recycling – glass belongs in glass waste, while the pump is made of plastic and aluminium and is disposed of separately from the bottle.
If you want to replace the pump with a different closure, choose from closures with the same neck finish in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and the behaviour of the closure with your formulation.
