Product description
This medicine bottle made of opaque white glass with a pump is a set for packaging small volumes of serums, eye creams, facial fluids and oil concentrates. White glass conceals the contents and reduces the amount of light reaching them, which suits products with sensitive active ingredients and vegetable oils. With each press, the pump delivers approximately 0.3 ml, so the product is dispensed without unscrewing the bottle and without fingers touching the contents. The glossy black and gold pump head is covered by a clear overcap, which protects it from dust and from being pressed accidentally in a bag or on a shelf.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. It is not approved for contact with food, so it is intended exclusively for cosmetics. The nominal volume of 15 ml corresponds to a standard travel size or a full-size eye serum, and it also suits samples and test batches of new formulations.
What the set is suitable for
- Serums and concentrates – water-based and oil-based serums with active ingredients, where a small dose and protection from light extend the time during which the product keeps its effect and appearance.
- Eye creams and fluids – lighter emulsions, where a precise small single-use dose is appreciated.
- Oil blends – facial oils, cuticle oils or oil elixirs for hair, which can be spread straight after pressing.
- Samples and travel sizes – for developing a formulation or for customers who want to try a product first.
Dispensing and working with the pump
A dose of about 0.3 ml per press is approximate. The actual amount depends on the viscosity of the contents. A thicker emulsion gives a slightly smaller dose, while a liquid oil or a water-based toner may slightly exceed it. The pump works best with liquid to medium-thick products. A very thick cream or a balm with a high proportion of butters and wax passes through it with difficulty, and for such a texture we recommend a jar instead.
Before first use, the pump must be pressed several times until it draws the contents up through the tube and begins to dispense evenly. With oils this usually takes longer than with water-based formulations.
The pump tube is supplied longer than this bottle needs. Before the first filling, shorten it with a sharp knife or scissors so that it ends just above the bottom once screwed on. The pump then draws up to the very end and as little residue as possible remains in the bottle.
Put the clear overcap back on after each use. It protects the head from the contents drying in the opening and prevents accidental pressing during transport.
Volume and filling
The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck. The difference between them forms a reserve for the tube and the pump body, which take up part of the space once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled up to the nominal volume. If it were filled to the brim, the contents would be pushed out through the neck when the pump is fitted and could seep under the thread.
For filling through a narrow neck, a small funnel, a syringe or a filling bottle with a nozzle will help. Fill thicker emulsions while still slightly warm, when they are more liquid, but always after they have cooled enough that the heat does not endanger the active ingredients or the plastic parts of the pump.
Preparation, cleaning and reuse
Before the first filling, wash the bottle with warm water and a neutral detergent, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual water would dilute the finished product and, with water-based formulations, increases the demands on preservation.
Glass withstands repeated washing and disinfection and can be reused. Before reuse, rinse the pump by placing it in warm water and pressing it repeatedly until clean water comes out of the tube. Then pump it empty and leave it to dry. Cleaning is more demanding after oil-based products, as fat residues are harder to remove from the mechanism than after water-based formulations.
For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with the specific formulation before larger production.
Good to know
The bottle can also be combined with other closures with the same neck type, which is given in the parameters. You can find ready-made combinations of packaging and closure in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.
The glass bottle is recycled as glass. The pump combines plastic with aluminium, so it is unscrewed before disposal and sorted separately from the glass.
White glass does not let you see how much of the contents remains in the bottle. When selling, it is advisable to tell the customer the approximate number of doses or the recommended period of use.
