Product description

The white plastic bottle with a capacity of 10 ml and a black lotion pump forms a ready-to-use packaging set for small quantities of creams, light emulsions and serums. It is suitable for samples, travel packs and testers, for eye creams, or for formulations that a maker prepares in a small batch and wants to dispense with a press, without opening the container and scooping with a finger. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the bottle on its own has a food-contact certificate; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

The pump with a dip tube draws the contents up from the bottom and pushes them out through the outlet. It handles products that flow: face lotions, light to medium-thick creams, gel and emulsion serums, fluids, liquid make-up bases or hand creams in a travel format. At a volume of 10 ml, it is most often used for:

  • Samples and testers – the customer tries the product with the same dispensing as the full-size pack.
  • Eye and face creams – small doses for sensitive areas, where little product is used and the contents are not contaminated by a finger.
  • Travel packs – a closed system with a pump does not leak in a bag as easily as an open jar.
  • Small trial batches – a new formulation is filled into several small bottles and its behaviour is monitored.

How to use the pump

The pump dispenses approximately 0.14 ml per press. Before first use, press it several times without product until the tube fills and the contents start to come out evenly. Thicker creams pass through the tube more slowly, and with very firm textures, butters or balms the pump does not work at all. Therefore, check the consistency before filling the whole batch.

The pump tube is longer than the bottle. Before fitting it, shorten it with a diagonal cut so that it reaches just above the bottom; otherwise the pump cannot be screwed on, or the tube stays bent inside the packaging and draws in air.

Nominal volume and filling

The nominal volume is the quantity the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the pump tube and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the contents will overflow through the neck when the pump is screwed on.

Emulsions are filled only after they have cooled. Hot contents can deform the plastic body, and the properties of the cream also change as it cools in the bottle.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Moisture inside the packaging reduces the stability of the product, especially in water-based and emulsion formulations.

Reuse is possible as long as the pump can be rinsed thoroughly. When you change the formulation, it is better to replace the pump, as residues in the tube and in the mechanism are difficult to remove.

For contents with a high proportion of alcohol, undiluted essential oils or solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the plastic and of the pump seal on a single bottle and leaving it to stand for several weeks. The PET bottle is intended for common cosmetic products; do not expose it to aggressive chemicals.

Food use applies only to the bottle itself. The lotion pump does not have a food-contact certificate, so use the set with the pump exclusively for cosmetic products.

Closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters, and other ready-made combinations of a bottle with a closure, can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend testing the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

The bottle is made of PET and the pump of polypropylene. Before recycling, separate the two parts and sort them as plastic.

Frequently asked questions

What creams can be dispensed from a 10 ml bottle with a lotion pump?
The pump handles liquid to medium-thick products: face lotions, light creams, emulsion and gel serums, fluids. A thick cream is pumped slowly and unevenly through the tube, and firm butters and balms do not pass through at all. With a new formulation, it is worth filling one bottle and trying several presses before filling the whole batch.
Is the set of a white bottle with a pump suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the white PET bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The lotion pump does not have one, so the bottle and pump combination is used for creams, serums and emulsions, not for oils or syrups intended for consumption.
Why does the pump tube not fit into the 10 ml bottle?
The tube is longer than the bottle and is shortened before use. Cut it diagonally so that, once screwed on, it ends just above the bottom of the bottle. A tube that is too long bends and draws in air, while one that is too short leaves part of the contents at the bottom where they cannot be pumped out.
How much cream does the pump dispense per press?
The lotion pump dispenses approximately 0.14 ml per press. For face and eye creams, one or two presses are enough, while for body lotions the pump is pressed several times. The first presses after filling run without product until the tube and the mechanism fill with the contents.
Can the white PET bottle with a pump be reused?
Yes, if both parts can be washed and disinfected. Wash the bottle, wipe it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and leave it to dry. Rinse the pump with clean water and leave it to dry. After a significant change of formulation, or after oily contents, it is safer to replace the pump, because residues in the tube cannot be removed completely.
