Product description

The plastic bottle with a fine mist sprayer, with a capacity of 10 ml, is designed for filling small quantities of liquid cosmetics that are applied as a fine mist: facial toners, hydrolates, refreshing sprays for the face and hair, alcohol-based perfume samples or disinfectant sprays for your handbag. The white opaque PET wall conceals the contents and limits light exposure, and the bottle is lightweight and does not break if dropped. The pharmaceutical bottle shape with a narrow neck and the sprayer with an 18/415 neck finish form a ready-made set that only needs to be filled and screwed on.

The 10 ml volume suits samples, trial packs and travel versions of larger products. Cosmetics makers also use it when testing formulations, when they want a few people to try a small quantity without filling an entire batch. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The certificate for direct food contact applies to the bottle alone; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial toners and hydrolates – the sprayer disperses low-viscosity aqueous solutions into an even mist, so they can be applied without cotton pads.
  • Alcohol-based sprays and perfume samples – ethanol solutions are dispensed evenly from the sprayer, and the fragrance composition is hidden from view and light in the white bottle.
  • Hair refreshers and mists – light aqueous sprays with glycerine, panthenol or aloe are dispensed from the small bottle exactly where needed.
  • Customer samples – 10 ml is enough to try a product for several days, and the packaging does not weigh down a postal parcel.
  • Travel pack – the contents of a larger bottle are decanted into a smaller one that fits in a handbag or hand luggage.

Filling and dispensing

The bottle is filled through the neck up to the nominal volume, that is, up to the level for which the packaging is designed for normal use. The physical volume up to the rim of the neck is larger. The difference provides room for the sprayer tube, which is immersed in the contents after screwing on and raises the level, and also space for the contents to expand with temperature changes. A bottle filled to the brim overflows over the thread when the sprayer is fitted.

Because the neck is narrow, a small funnel or a needleless syringe is useful, as it lets you measure exactly 10 ml without soiling the thread. A dry, clean thread is essential for the sprayer to seal properly.

The sprayer tube is longer than the bottle. Before fitting it, shorten the tube with an angled cut so that it reaches just to the bottom. An angled cut prevents the tube from sticking to the bottom, and the contents can be sprayed out almost to the last drop.

With each press, the sprayer releases a small measured dose, so it suits products that are applied in a thin layer. Thicker liquids, oils or emulsions come out of the nozzle as a stream instead of a mist, or they clog it. For such formulations, Handymade offers a different closure with the same neck type, together with ready-made combinations of packaging and closure.

Good to know

Before first filling, wash the bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the tube would dilute the first doses and could impair the microbiological stability of aqueous contents.

PET withstands water, alcohol solutions and common cosmetic ingredients. Concentrated essential oils, strong solvents and aggressive chemicals can damage the plastic. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, let the filled packaging stand for several days at room temperature and check whether the wall or the nozzle changes.

Do not expose the bottle to high temperature. Hot filling immediately after preparing a formulation deforms PET, so let the contents cool first.

The packaging can be reused. After emptying, rinse the bottle and flush the sprayer by spraying clean water through it, then ethanol, to remove residues of the previous contents from the tube and nozzle. For recycling, separate the PP sprayer from the PET bottle; each part belongs in plastics separately.

Frequently asked questions

Does the white plastic 10 ml bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the white opaque PET wall limits light exposure, and the contents cannot be seen through it. It is therefore suitable for toners with vitamins, plant extracts or fragrance compositions that change colour or scent in light. The packaging does not guarantee complete protection against every range of wavelengths, so store sensitive formulations away from direct sunlight anyway.
Can the 18/415 sprayer be used for oil?
Only for very thin oils; thick oils and emulsions cannot be sprayed. The nozzle is designed for aqueous and alcohol solutions with low viscosity. With thicker contents, a stream comes out instead of a mist, or the nozzle clogs. For facial or hair oils, combine the bottle with a different closure for the same neck, for example a dropper.
Why is the 10 ml plastic bottle filled to the nominal volume and not to the brim?
Space must remain below the neck for the sprayer tube and for the expansion of the contents, so the bottle is filled to 10 ml. After screwing on, the tube is immersed in the liquid and the level rises. If the bottle is filled to the brim, the contents overflow over the thread, soil it, and the sprayer will not seal.
Is the plastic bottle with a sprayer suitable for alcohol-based sprays and perfume samples?
Yes, ethanol solutions are dispensed evenly from this sprayer, and PET normally withstands them. For perfumes with a high content of essential oils, run a test: let the filled packaging stand for several days and check whether the wall, thread or nozzle changes.
How do you clean a plastic bottle with a sprayer before reuse?
Rinse the bottle with warm water and spray clean water through the sprayer several times, then ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. This flushes out residues from the tube and the nozzle. Take the two parts apart and let them dry completely. When switching from scented contents to something else, bear in mind that a faint trace of the original scent may remain in the plastic.
Does the bottle and sprayer set have a food-contact certificate?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The certificate for direct food contact applies to the PET bottle alone; the sprayer has no such assessment. If you need packaging for food, combine the bottle with a closure that has its own declaration of suitability for food contact.
