Amber Plastic Bottle, Black Lotion Pump, 115 ml

The amber plastic bottle with a lotion pump is ready-made packaging for your own creams, face lotions and lighter emulsions that you want to dispense without opening the bottle and without fingers touching the contents. The PET bottle in the shape of a medicine bottle is lightweight and its amber colour dampens light, so it also suits formulations with oils and active ingredients sensitive to sunlight. The black pump delivers a small, repeatable amount with every press, which you will appreciate with thicker products that would be difficult or unhygienic to scoop out of an ordinary bottle with a cap.

The nominal volume of 115 ml is a sensible size for a day cream, a body lotion for the bathroom or a sample of a larger batch for customers. Both the bottle and the pump are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What the set is suitable for

• Face and body creams – medium-thick emulsions that the pump can push through and that do not spill during normal use.
• Face lotions and light emulsions – thinner products where the pump prevents a larger amount from being poured out at once.
• Gel products – gels for the face or hands, as long as they are not too firm. With thick gels, first test whether the dip tube can draw them up.
• Hand creams and aftershave creams – products used several times a day, where dispensing without opening the bottle saves the contents and keeps them clean.

This type of pump is not intended for very thick balms, butters and products that do not flow at room temperature. Such products belong in a jar or container instead.

Filling and dispensing

The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them is a reserve for the pump dip tube and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the contents will be pushed out through the neck when the pump is screwed on.

After screwing it on, the pump must first be primed by pressing it several times until the dip tube fills and the contents begin to come out. This also applies after a longer break in use.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Flush the pump by immersing its dip tube in the disinfecting solution, pressing it several times and then pumping it empty. Residual water in the dip tube or in the bottle would otherwise get into the first dose, dilute the contents and could shorten their shelf life.

Only the bottle has a certificate for direct contact with food. The pump does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. For homemade oils or syrups, choose a separate bottle with a closure whose food suitability is stated in the parameters.

PET is resistant to common cosmetic emulsions and water-based solutions. The packaging should not, however, be exposed to aggressive chemicals, so for formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or other solvents, check in advance how the material behaves with your specific formulation. The bottle is also not suitable for hot filling. Let the emulsion cool before filling.

After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. The pump is harder to clean on the inside, so it is better to replace it when you change the formulation. When disposing of the set, separate the PET bottle from the PP pump and sort both parts as plastic.
