Product description

This glass bottle with a pump combines blue glass in a medicine bottle shape with a pump that releases the contents in small doses without unscrewing anything. It suits facial serums, fluid emulsions, oil blends for the face or hair, and any product where it matters that the contents do not spill or come into contact with fingers. The glossy white and silver pump complements the shape of the bottle, and the finished product looks like a shop-bought serum.

The set is supplied as a bottle and a pump that fit together. Both parts are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The nominal volume of 50 ml corresponds to a typical pack of facial serum or a smaller body lotion.

What it is suitable for

  • Serums and fluids – liquid to medium-thick formulations that the pump draws up and dispenses without problems.
  • Oil blends – facial, hair or massage oils that are dispensed into the palm a few pumps at a time.
  • Light emulsions and lotions – body lotions, light hand creams or fluid moisturising products.
  • Hair serums and leave-in conditioners – small doses make it possible to measure the exact amount for the ends of the hair.
  • Samples and smaller batches – the 50 ml volume is enough to test a recipe or for a gift pack.

Filling and dispensing

The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume of the neck and body of the bottle. The difference provides a reserve for the dip tube of the pump and for the air above the liquid. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the thread when the pump is screwed on, and the bottle stays greasy or sticky on the outside.

One press of the pump releases approximately 0.14 ml. This dose suits concentrated serums and oils, while a body lotion will need more presses. Give the amount for one use in the instructions as a number of presses, so that the customer finds it easier to follow.

After screwing on the pump, press it several times to prime it until the dip tube fills and the first dose comes out. If the contents do not come out even after several presses, check that the dip tube reaches the bottom and that the formulation is not too thick for the pump.

Thick creams and balms with a high proportion of butters are generally not drawn up by this type of pump. Therefore, test the viscosity of the formulation in this particular set before filling the whole batch.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump with clean water and let it drain. If you disinfect it with alcohol, dry it thoroughly so that no residues get into the product.

Let the emulsion cool to at least room temperature before filling. The pump has plastic parts, and a hot mixture could deform them. For essential oils, alcohol tinctures and solvents, we recommend leaving the filled set to stand for several weeks and monitoring the tightness, the appearance of the pump and the scent of the contents.

The set is intended for cosmetic products. Neither the bottle nor the pump has a food-contact certificate, so it is not suitable for homemade oils, syrups or other food products.

The pump is not a sealing stopper. Before transport or travel, check that the contents do not leak when the pump is pressed in a bag. A separate cap with the same type of neck as given in the bottle parameters is suitable for this purpose. You can find other closures and ready-made combinations with this bottle in the Handymade range.

After washing, the bottle can be used again; disinfect it again when changing the contents. The pump combines plastic and aluminium; when recycling, separate it from the glass bottle and sort it separately.

Frequently asked questions

How many ml fit into a 50 ml glass bottle with a pump?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 50 ml. The brimful volume is larger and is given in the parameters, but this space remains as a reserve for the dip tube of the pump and the air above the liquid. If the bottle is filled higher, the contents are pushed out through the thread when the pump is screwed on.
What is the dose from the pump per press?
One press of the pump releases approximately 0.14 ml. This dose size suits facial serums, oils and concentrated products where only a small amount is applied. For a body lotion or a light cream, the customer will need more presses, and it is good to state the number in the instructions for use.
Is the pump on the 50 ml glass bottle suitable for thick creams?
No, this type of pump is designed for liquid to medium-thick formulations. Thick creams, balms and products with a high proportion of butters are not drawn up through the thin dip tube, or they block the pump. Before filling the whole batch, fill one set as a test and check that the contents are dispensed smoothly.
Can the glass bottle with a pump be reused?
Yes, both the bottle and the pump can be reused after washing. Wash the glass, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry. Rinse the pump with clean water, pump it several times without any contents and dry it thoroughly. If the type of contents changes, for example from an oil to an emulsion, clean the pump especially thoroughly so that residues do not spoil the new product.
Is the blue glass bottle with a pump suitable for essential oils and tinctures?
It is more suitable for diluted oil blends. For concentrated essential oils and alcohol tinctures, first check the compatibility of the plastic parts of the pump with the recipe. Leave the filled set to stand for several weeks and monitor the tightness, the appearance of the plastic and the scent of the contents. For pure essential oils, it is more common to fill a bottle with a dropper or cap.
