Blue Glass Bottle, Glossy Silver White Pump, 15 ml

The glass bottle with pump, 15 ml, is intended for filling and dispensing liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products in small doses. It suits facial oils, serums with sensitive active ingredients and products containing essential oils, where it is worth limiting exposure to light and air. The pump releases the same amount with every press, so the product does not have to be poured out or scooped with the fingers. The set is sold as a whole: the bottle and pump arrive together, so there is no need to look for a closure with a matching neck.

The size suits samples, travel packs, eye and facial serums, and concentrated products of which only a little is used. For batches of cosmetics intended for sale or testing, it also works as uniform packaging for a smaller production run.

What it is suitable for

• Facial serums – water-based and oil-based serums of medium and lower viscosity are dispensed evenly by the pump, without the fingers touching the contents.
• Facial and body oils – blue glass lets through less light than clear glass, and the pump always measures the same dose, so no excess oil is dispensed.
• Light emulsions and fluids – liquid creams and milks that can be drawn up through the dip tube are dispensed more cleanly than from an open jar.
• Samples and travel packs – a volume of 15 ml is enough for a customer sample or for a travel pack of serum.

The pump and bottle in practice

The bottle is made of glass, and the pump combines polypropylene with aluminium, which gives it a glossy white and silver look. The glass can be washed thoroughly and refilled repeatedly. The pump dip tube is supplied longer than this bottle requires. Before first assembly, shorten it so that it ends just above the bottom. A dip tube that is too long bends and the pump does not draw up the product. One that is too short leaves a residue at the bottom that cannot be pumped out.

Suitability for contact with cosmetic products is declared for the pump. No such declaration is available for the glass bottle, so when selling your own product, check the packaging requirements for the specific product. The set is not intended for food.

Filling and volume

The packaging has a nominal volume of 15 ml. This is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful capacity is larger. The difference between the two values is a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the pump, which take up space inside the bottle once screwed in. Fill only up to the nominal volume. If you fill to the brim, the contents are pushed out through the thread when the pump is fitted and the bottle leaks.

Good to know

The pump is suitable for products that can be drawn up through the dip tube. Thick creams, balms and butters will not pass through it or will clog it. It is also not suitable for products with scrub particles or undissolved ingredients that settle in the mechanism. For oils with higher viscosity, such as castor oil, and for emulsions at the limit of fluidity, test the pump with the finished formulation beforehand. One press releases approximately 0.14 ml, which corresponds to a few drops of serum.

For products with a high proportion of alcohol, essential oils or solvents, check how the plastic parts of the pump behave over time. Glass tolerates these ingredients, but plastic may not.

Before first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Rinse the pump with warm water, pump ethanol through it and leave it to dry with the dip tube pointing downwards. Do not fill the glass with a hot product and do not let it cool rapidly, as thermal shock can crack the bottle.

After thorough washing, the bottle can be reused. For the pump, this depends on the previous contents and on whether the mechanism can be cleaned out. With oils and sticky products, replacing the pump is usually more reliable than cleaning it. When sorting waste, glass goes with glass; the pump contains both plastic and metal and unscrews from the bottle.
