Product description

Amber glass medicine bottle, lotion pump 10 ml combines an amber glass medicine bottle with a plastic pump that dispenses the contents in small doses without unscrewing anything. Amber glass filters light, so it better preserves serums, eye creams and creams with active ingredients, which lose their effectiveness faster when exposed to light. The 10 ml volume suits samples, travel sizes and more expensive products that are applied with a single press.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the pump does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.

What it is suitable for

  • Eye creams and serums – the small size and single-press dispensing match the amount applied around the eyes or on the lips.
  • Creams with active ingredients – vitamin C, retinol and peptides are often sensitive to light and air, and amber glass and closed dispensing help protect them.
  • Samples and test batches – when developing a formulation, a 10 ml bottle is easy to dispense from, and you can see how the product behaves in real packaging.
  • Travel sizes – at this volume the glass is not heavy and the contents stay protected from light.

The pump is designed for cream and gel textures. With very thin liquids, such as pure oils or toners, check that the pump dispenses evenly and does not leak. For such contents, a dropper or a fine mist sprayer with the same neck finish is usually more suitable.

Filling and dispensing

Fill the bottle to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them leaves room for the dip tube and the pump mechanism. If the bottle is filled higher, the contents will overflow through the thread when the pump is fitted and the closure will not seal.

One press releases approximately 0.12 ml, which for 10 ml of contents corresponds to about 80 doses. After filling, screw on the pump and press it several times without dispensing until the dip tube and pump head fill with the contents. The first doses are usually smaller, which is normal behaviour for any pump.

The pump dip tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before fitting it, shorten it with an angled cut so that it reaches just above the bottom. An angled end does not stick to the bottom and the pump draws smoothly.

You will find closures with the same neck finish as stated in the parameters, as well as other ready-made combinations, in the Handymade range. If you combine a bottle and closure yourself, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. The pump is disinfected by pumping alcohol through the mechanism and then pumping it empty, so that no liquid remains in the dip tube.

The bottle can be washed and reused once it is empty. With a polypropylene pump it depends on the contents: creams with a higher proportion of oils and essential oils are difficult to wash out of the mechanism, and residues may contaminate the next fill.

With products of thick consistency, such as butters or balms with a high proportion of wax, the pump may not draw up the contents. Test the texture on a single bottle before filling.

Glass belongs in the glass recycling bin, and the pump, as a plastic part, in the plastics bin. Separate the individual parts of the set before recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber medicine bottle with a pump protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the transmission of light and thereby slows the breakdown of sensitive ingredients. It does not provide complete protection, so even amber bottles should be stored out of direct sunlight. For creams with vitamin C, retinol or plant extracts, amber glass is more suitable than clear glass, in which the contents are visible but unprotected.
How much cream fits in a 10 ml bottle with a pump?
The bottle is filled with 10 ml, which is the nominal volume of the packaging. Physically the bottle has a slightly larger volume, and the extra room is needed for the dip tube and the pump mechanism. If you fill above the nominal volume, the cream will overflow through the thread and the pump may not seal.
Is the lotion pump suitable for thin serums and oils?
The pump is designed for creams, gels and thicker serums. With very thin liquids it may dispense unevenly or continue to drip from the head after pressing. Check the behaviour with your specific formulation. For pure oils and toners, a dropper or a fine mist sprayer with the same neck finish is more suitable.
Can the glass bottle with a pump be reused?
Yes, once empty the bottle is washed, disinfected with alcohol and refilled after it has dried. The pump is flushed with alcohol and pumped empty, but residues of thick creams are difficult to remove from the mechanism. For a product intended for sale or for another person, it is safer to use a new pump.
Is the set with a pump also suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the plastic pump has no such declaration. If you need 10 ml packaging for homemade oils or syrups, choose the bottle on its own with a food-grade closure.
How do I shorten the dip tube of a lotion pump?
Cut the tube at an angle so that, once the pump is screwed on, it ends just above the bottom of the bottle. First measure the length by holding the tube against the bottle, and trim it a little at a time, because length cannot be added back. An angled cut prevents the end of the tube from sticking to the bottom, which would stop the pump drawing.
