Product description

This square 10 ml amber glass medicine bottle with a white nasal sprayer fitted sprays water-based fillings in small, repeatable doses. You can use it for hydrosol and water-based sprays, solutions of water-soluble active ingredients, travel-size toners or samples for customers, in other words whenever you need to dispense a small volume precisely and in a targeted way. Amber glass reduces light transmission and helps protect light-sensitive contents, for example hydrosols or solutions with vitamins.

The square shape is comfortable to hold and the bottle stands stably even on a narrow shelf. Both the bottle and the sprayer are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set is not approved for contact with food, and neither the bottle nor the sprayer has a certificate for it.

How the sprayer works

The sprayer is a mechanical pump with a dip tube: pressing the head draws the contents up from the bottom of the bottle and releases them through a narrow nozzle as a fine mist. The extended nozzle directs the spray onto a small area, so the mist is narrower and more targeted than with a standard fine mist sprayer. For spraying over a wide area of the face or hair, choose a standard fine mist sprayer instead. This sprayer is intended for precise dispensing of a small amount.

One dose is approximately 0.12 ml. With a 10 ml filling, that gives about 80 presses. The exact number depends on the viscosity of the filling and on how much liquid remains in the tube and the mechanism.

Before first use, prime the pump with a few presses until the tube fills and the head starts to spray evenly. The first doses are often weaker or come out as drops, which is normal.

Nominal and total volume

The bottle has a nominal volume of 10 ml, which is the volume it is designed for in normal filling. The total brim-full volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the tube and the pump mechanism, which takes up part of the space in the neck once screwed in, and for movement of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill it to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you fill it up to the neck, the filling will overflow when the sprayer is fitted.

What the set is suitable for

  • Hydrosol and water-based sprays – thin fillings are sprayed evenly and do not clog the nozzle.
  • Solutions of water-soluble active ingredients – the small volume and amber glass suit serum solutions that are used up quickly and should be protected from light.
  • Alcohol-based solutions and sprays – glass is resistant to alcohol. With a higher content of ethanol or essential oils, we recommend testing how the plastic parts of the sprayer and the seal behave with your specific formulation.
  • Samples and travel packs – the set is small and light and fits into a bag or a cosmetic pouch. Check that it is leak-proof with your specific filling before travelling.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. Wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Rinse the sprayer with clean water, or spray a disinfectant solution through it, and let it dry. Do not take it apart.

Dip tube. The sprayer is supplied with a tube longer than the height of the bottle. Before fitting it, cut it at an angle so that it reaches just above the bottom without bending. A bent tube draws poorly and leaves more unused filling in the bottle.

Viscosity of the filling. Oils, oil serums and emulsions do not atomise through the nozzle of a nasal sprayer and may clog the mechanism. The set is intended for low-viscosity fillings close to that of water.

A water-based filling in a pump with a dip tube comes into contact with the air drawn into the bottle with every press. Hydrosols and water-based solutions therefore need a suitable preservative, and for longer use we recommend testing the stability of the filling in this packaging.

Temperature. Do not fill the glass with a hot filling and do not expose it to sudden temperature changes, as it may crack. Let the filling cool to room temperature before filling.

Reuse and recycling. After thorough washing and disinfection, the glass bottle can be reused. After emptying, rinse the sprayer with clean water, and when changing the filling it is better to replace it with a new one, as residues of the previous contents in the tube and the mechanism cannot be removed completely. When disposing of them, glass belongs in glass waste, while the sprayer, made of plastics and steel, is sorted separately.

You can find closures and sprayers with the same neck finish as given in the parameters, as well as other ready-made combinations, in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend testing the seal, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

How many ml does a nasal sprayer dispense per press?
One press of the sprayer dispenses approximately 0.12 ml of the filling. With a full 10 ml bottle, that corresponds to about 80 doses. The actual amount depends on the viscosity of the filling, on how hard you press and on whether the pump was properly primed before use. With thin water-based solutions the dose is most consistent.
Does a 10 ml amber glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the transmission of light and thereby slows the deterioration of light-sensitive fillings. This applies to hydrosols and to solutions of vitamins or plant extracts. Amber glass does not provide complete protection, so still store the bottle out of direct sunlight.
Can you fill a nasal sprayer with oil or a thick emulsion?
No, the nasal sprayer is intended for thin water-based or alcohol-based fillings. Oils and emulsions will not atomise through the narrow nozzle, and they either come out as drops or clog the mechanism. For oil serums, choose a bottle with a dropper or a pump. This set is suitable for thin water-based sprays.
How do you prepare a glass bottle with a nasal sprayer before the first filling?
Wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Rinse the sprayer with clean water and let it dry as well. Cut the tube before fitting it so that it reaches just above the bottom of the bottle. After filling to the nominal volume, screw on the sprayer and prime the pump with a few presses.
Is a glass bottle with a nasal sprayer suitable for contact with food?
No, the set is not approved for contact with food. Neither the bottle nor the sprayer has a food-contact certificate, so it is not suitable for homemade syrups, infusions or other foodstuffs. Both components are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
