Product description

The amber glass 10 ml pharmaceutical bottle with a fitted nasal sprayer makes a ready-to-use set for water-based preparations applied in small doses as a fine mist. Amber glass reduces light exposure, so this packaging suits hydrolates, salt and herbal solutions, or light tonics whose fragrance or colour gradually changes in light. The tall, slim shape of the pharmaceutical bottle sits well in the hand and fits into a handbag or pocket. The name “pharmaceutical bottle” refers only to the shape of the bottle, not to its intended contents.

The pump with white applicator has an 18/410 neck finish, the same as the neck of the bottle, so it fits directly without any additional parts. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

How it dispenses

Pressing the applicator draws the solution from the bottle through the tube, and the nozzle disperses it into fine droplets. One press releases approximately 0.12 ml, so the preparation is dispensed in measured amounts, without pouring and without fingers touching the contents. When dispensing, hold the bottle upright with the base facing down so that the end of the tube stays in the solution.

The pump is designed for thin, watery solutions. Thicker solutions, gels or oils may clog the nozzle or come out in a stream instead of a mist. We therefore recommend testing how the pump behaves with your specific formulation beforehand.

The tube of the pump is longer than the height of the bottle. Before first fitting, shorten it so that it reaches just to the bottom and does not bend; otherwise the pump will not draw up the remaining contents.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. Total brimful volume, stated in the parameters, is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the tube and the body of the pump, which take up part of the space once fitted. Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the solution will overflow when you screw the pump on.

What it is suited for

  • Hydrolates and floral waters – spraying in a small dose onto facial skin or for a refresh; amber glass slows changes caused by light.
  • Salt and herbal solutions – low-viscosity water-based preparations that the pump disperses evenly.
  • Tonics and aromatic water sprays – a smaller travel pack that you refill from a larger bottle.
  • Samples and test batches – a volume of 10 ml is enough to try out a recipe without wasting raw material.

Preparation before filling

Before first use, wash and rinse the glass bottle and disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, then let it dry completely. Rinse the tube and nozzle of the pump with clean water or ethanol and pump it empty several times. Fill the dry bottle using a funnel or syringe so that the solution does not run down the thread.

After fitting the pump, press the applicator several times until the tube fills and the first even spray appears.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well. Let a hot solution cool before filling, and do not put the bottle in the freezer or heat it in a microwave oven.

Good to know

The bottle can be reused. However, the pump has tiny channels that are harder to clean after solutions containing salt or plant residues. When changing the contents, rinse it immediately after emptying, before residues dry inside.

The tube, nozzle and body of the pump are made of plastic, and the pump also contains metal and glass parts. For recycling, it must therefore be separated from the glass bottle. Glass belongs in glass collection; sort the pump according to local rules.

With stronger fragrance compounds and solutions with a higher alcohol content, we recommend checking that the plastic parts of the pump do not change the fragrance or appearance of the contents. You can find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made packaging plus closure combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, check the seal, dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the glass pharmaceutical bottle with nasal sprayer suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The pump does not have such a certificate, so the set with the pump fitted is not recommended for food use. If you need a bottle for a food purpose, combine it with a closure that has its own food-contact suitability.
How much solution does one press of the nasal sprayer release?
One press releases approximately 0.12 ml. With a volume of 10 ml, this corresponds to several dozen doses; the exact number depends on how much solution remains in the tube and at the bottom of the bottle. The first presses after filling run empty until the pump primes.
Can the pharmaceutical bottle with nasal sprayer be filled with oil or a thick solution?
Oil and thicker solutions spray poorly; the pump is designed for watery liquids. Oil usually comes out of the nozzle in a stream or drops, and thicker contents may clog the channels of the pump. For oil-based preparations, it is better to choose a dropper or a pump; for this set, we recommend hydrolates, salt solutions and tonics.
Does the amber glass of the pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces light exposure and slows the changes that light causes in hydrolates, infusions and fragranced water-based solutions. However, it does not block light completely, so do not leave the bottle in direct sunlight. For light-sensitive preparations, amber glass is a better choice than clear glass.
How do I clean the nasal sprayer before reusing it?
Clean the pump by rinsing it with clean water or ethanol and pumping it empty repeatedly. Wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and let it dry. Clean it immediately after emptying, before residues of the solution dry in the tube and nozzle. Dried salt or plant particles are difficult to remove from the channels.
