Plastic nasal spray bottle, 30 ml

The complete set of a brown 30 ml plastic bottle and a white nasal spray pump is designed for home-prepared aqueous solutions to be applied as a fine mist directly into the nose or over a small area. Suitable for saline and seawater solutions, hydrolats, light aqueous tonics and refreshing sprays in small packaging. The brown colour reduces light transmission and helps protect more sensitive contents. PET is lightweight and shatterproof, so the bottle holds up in a handbag and while travelling.

The pump with a long dip tube draws the contents from the bottom of the bottle and with each press releases a measured dose of 0.12 ml as a fine mist. The complete set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The bottle alone additionally holds a food contact certification, the pump does not, so the complete set as a whole is intended for cosmetic and hygiene preparations.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 30 ml is the amount for which the bottle is intended under normal filling. The total volume to the top of the neck is higher. The difference provides a reserve for the submerged dip tube, for air above the liquid level, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the top. If you overfill the bottle, when screwing on the pump the contents will be forced out through the neck and may seep into the thread.

How to use the set

Before first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Rinse the pump with clean water or ethanol, press it several times dry and allow both the dip tube and nozzle to dry. After filling, screw the pump on firmly and press several times until the dip tube and mechanism are filled. The first few presses may deliver no dose or a smaller amount — this is normal.

The pump is designed for aqueous and hydro-alcoholic solutions with low viscosity. Thicker gels, emulsions or oils will not be atomised by the nozzle and the mechanism may become clogged. Solutions with undissolved particles (such as incompletely dissolved salt or plant sediment) should be filtered before filling, otherwise the nozzle will block.

What it is suitable for and what it is not

The set is particularly suitable for:

• saline and seawater solutions for home preparation, where a measured dose and hygienic application matter,
• hydrolats and light tonics in small travel packaging, where you want to protect the contents from light,
• aqueous sprays with a lower proportion of ethanol, such as refreshing or herbal sprays for a small area,
• samples and test batches, where filling a larger bottle makes no sense.

Less suitable for oil serums, emulsions, thick gels and preparations with a high proportion of undiluted essential oils. According to the storage instructions, the container should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals.

Good to know

The bottle and pump share the same neck type. Other closures with the same neck and ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. When creating your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal and the behaviour of the container with the specific formulation.

Brown PET reduces light transmission but is not complete protection. Store a bottle with light-sensitive contents away from direct sunlight. The bottle can be reused after cleaning and disinfection. We recommend dedicating the pump to one type of contents, because residues in the dip tube and nozzle are harder to clean. At the end of its service life, the bottle belongs in sorted plastic waste. The pump combines multiple plastics, steel and glass, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.

The preparation you fill into the set must itself comply with the rules for its category. The container is declared for cosmetics. Whether a solution intended for the nasal mucous membrane qualifies as a cosmetic product is determined by the preparation, not the container.
