Product description
The glass bottle with lotion pump is a ready-made set for creams, facial lotions and thicker serums that are dispensed by pressing, without opening the packaging. Clear glass shows the colour and consistency of the contents, so it suits products where you want the contents to be visible. The black plastic pump closes the neck and releases a small measured dose with each press, so the product is not taken out with your fingers as it would be from a jar.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.
Which products it suits
- Day and night creams – the pump draws up and dispenses medium-thickness emulsions in the same amount every time.
- Facial lotions and hand creams – the 100 ml volume is a common pack size for everyday use.
- Thicker serums and gel creams – products thickened with gum or carbomer, which would run unevenly from a dropper.
- Products with a natural colour – creams with sea buckthorn oil, carrot extract or coloured clays, where the colour is part of the impression the product makes.
A fine mist sprayer is more suitable for water-based toners and hydrosols, and a dropper for thin oils. The lotion pump is designed for thicker contents and may not dispense cleanly with very thin liquids.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume of 100 ml is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume listed in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the tube and the body of the pump, which take up part of the space below the neck once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, the cream is pushed out through the neck when the pump is fitted and soils the thread.
How to work with the set
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump with alcohol and leave it to drain. Fill the emulsion only after it has cooled to room temperature, ideally from a filling bag or with a syringe without a needle, so that the neck is not soiled. After screwing on the pump, press it several times without dispensing until the tube fills and the cream starts to come out.
One press dispenses approximately 0.12 ml. Take this dose into account when writing the instructions for use. With thicker creams, check the amount per press directly with the finished formulation.
The pump may not draw up very thick creams, body butters and balms with a high proportion of waxes. For such products, it is safer to check how the pump behaves on a test batch before filling the whole production run.
Good to know
Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Creams with vitamin C, retinol or plant oils prone to oxidation are better filled into amber glass, or the finished product should be packed in a box and stored away from direct light.
- Air in the packaging – the pump is not an airless system, and air is drawn into the bottle with each use. The contents therefore need preservation, just as in any other packaging that is opened. Unlike with a jar, however, fingers do not touch the product, which reduces the risk of introducing microorganisms.
- Glass and heat – do not fill the bottle with a hot emulsion and do not expose it to sudden temperature changes, as the glass may crack.
- Plastic parts of the pump – the body of the pump is made of polypropylene. For anhydrous products with a high proportion of essential oils or with solvents, we recommend checking that the pump stays sealed and dispenses without change after longer contact.
- Reuse – the bottle can be used again after washing and disinfection. Rinse the pump with warm water and a cleaning product, then with alcohol, and leave it to dry. If residues of the old cream remain in the tube or in the head, replace the pump.
- Other closures – you will find closures with the same neck finish as listed in the bottle parameters, and other ready-made combinations, in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
- Recycling – glass goes with glass, the pump with plastic. Separate the two parts before disposal and rinse the bottle.
