Product description

A white plastic 100 ml bottle with a white lotion pump makes a complete package for creams, body lotions and thinner emulsions that are meant to be dispensed without unscrewing and without fingers touching the contents. The bottle is made of PET, is lightweight and does not break if dropped, so it holds up in a bag or on the edge of the bathtub. The opaque white wall does not show the contents, but it dampens light, which helps with emulsions containing vegetable oils or active ingredients sensitive to light. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Face and body creams – the pump dispenses the same amount every time, and the contents stay in a closed bottle instead of being contaminated with each use, as happens in a jar.
  • Body lotions – thinner emulsions pass easily through the tube and are dispensed with a single press, without pouring through the neck.
  • Gel serums and light moisturising products – the 100 ml volume suits products for daily use that are consumed within a few weeks.
  • Hand creams for the bathroom or workshop – the packaging can be operated with one hand, which is useful wherever the other hand is dirty.

Thick balms, butters and waxes cannot be dispensed with a pump, so a jar remains the better choice for them.

How the pump works

The pump screws onto the neck of the bottle, the tube reaches the bottom, and pressing the head dispenses one dose, approximately 0.14 ml. For a face or hand cream this corresponds to one to two presses; for a body lotion the number of presses increases. After filling the bottle, press the head several times without product until the tube fills and the product starts to come out evenly.

How the pump behaves depends on the viscosity of the contents. For thicker creams, we recommend filling one bottle before a larger production run and checking that the pump works smoothly and no air remains in it. Very thin solutions, on the other hand, may drip from the head.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is larger, and the difference provides a reserve for the tube and the pump thread and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the contents will be pushed out through the neck when the pump is screwed on.

Fill emulsions only after they have cooled to room temperature. A hot mass could deform the wall of the PET bottle.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water would dilute and contaminate the finished product.
  • Reuse – the packaging can be emptied, washed and filled again. Rinse the tube and the head with warm water and let them dry, so that no old product settles inside.
  • Compatibility with the formulation – PET is not intended for aggressive chemicals. For products with a higher proportion of essential oils, solvents or alcohol, check after several weeks that the bottle wall has not changed and the pump still seals.
  • Bottle and pump separately – you can also find the bottle and closures with the same neck type separately in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the seal and the dispensing with your specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the pump of PP. Separate them before disposal so that each material can be sorted on its own.

Food use applies only to the bottle as a standalone package. With the lotion pump, the set is not intended for food.

Frequently asked questions

Does the white plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the white wall of the bottle is opaque and dampens light. It is therefore more suitable than a clear container for creams with vegetable oils, vitamins or other light-sensitive ingredients. However, it does not replace the preservative or antioxidant in the formulation; these remain necessary, just as in any other packaging.
What products can be dispensed with the white lotion pump?
The pump handles creams, body lotions and gel serums of thinner to medium consistency. Thick butters, balms and products that solidify at room temperature will not pass through the tube and the pump will jam. With borderline viscosity, it is worth filling one bottle as a test and checking whether it dispenses evenly.
How much cream does the pump dispense per press?
One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml of product. For a face cream, one to two presses are usually enough, while for a body lotion more are used. The actual amount depends on the thickness of the contents and on whether the tube is completely filled, so after refilling, first press several times without product.
Can the plastic bottle with the pump be washed and used again?
Yes, both the bottle and the pump can be washed and refilled. Wash the bottle with warm water and washing-up liquid, disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and let it dry. Rinse the pump by pumping clean water through it several times and then pumping it dry, so that the water is expelled from the tube.
Is the white plastic bottle with the pump suitable for food?
No, the set with the lotion pump is intended for cosmetic products. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The lotion pump does not have this declaration, so the whole assembly should not be used for homemade oils, syrups or other food.
Can I fill the PET bottle with a cream containing essential oils?
Yes, at the usual usage rate of essential oils in an emulsion, a PET bottle is commonly used. For high concentrations, pure essential oils or products with solvents, we recommend checking compatibility with the packaging, because PET is not intended for aggressive substances. After several weeks, check that the wall is not deforming and that the pump does not leak.
