Product description
A white plastic bottle with a volume of 100 ml and a glossy white and gold fine mist sprayer is a ready-made packaging solution for liquid cosmetic products that are applied by spraying. It is suitable for facial toners, hydrolates, refreshing sprays, hair waters, alcohol-based deodorants and hand sprays. The set includes both the bottle and the sprayer – you only need to prepare it for filling and fill it.
The bottle is made of PET, is lightweight and does not break, so it is suitable for a handbag, for travelling or for a bathroom where glass would be a risk. The opaque white wall hides the contents and limits the access of light, which you will appreciate with hydrolates and toners containing light-sensitive active ingredients. The glossy white and gold sprayer complements the white body and the product looks finished without any further adjustments.
What the set is suitable for
- Toners and hydrolates – low-viscosity aqueous solutions are sprayed through the nozzle as a fine mist and cover the skin evenly.
- Alcohol-based sprays – deodorants, fresheners or hand sprays containing ethanol. Test how PET behaves with your specific concentration of alcohol and ingredients on a single unit before you fill a larger batch.
- Hair and body sprays – light solutions with moisturising ingredients that are applied without your hands coming into contact with the contents.
- Textile and room sprays – water and alcohol fragrance blends that the sprayer disperses over a larger area.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the bottle has a separate certificate for direct food contact; the sprayer does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
How to work with the packaging
The sprayer works by pressing the head. The dip tube reaches the bottom of the bottle, so almost all of the contents can be used up and the spray works even when little remains. One press releases a small dose in the form of a mist. After the first filling, prime the sprayer by pressing the head several times until the tube fills and the mist starts to come out evenly.
The sprayer is intended for liquids with low viscosity. Oils, thick emulsions, gels or products with undissolved particles clog the nozzle or come out of it as a stream instead of a mist. If an emulsion is to be applied through the sprayer, it must be thin, milk-like, and you should still test it on a single unit.
With your own recipe, first fill one set, leave it standing for a few days both on its side and upside down, and check whether the sprayer seals and whether any sediment forms in the nozzle after a week. Ingredients with a high proportion of essential oils or other solvents can stress the plastic in the long term, so run such a test before any larger production.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. Physically, more fits into the bottle up to the neck. The difference provides a reserve for the sprayer tube, for the air above the surface and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the neck when the sprayer is screwed on and the set seals less well.
Good to know
Before the first filling, rinse the bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. The sprayer is disinfected by fitting it onto a bottle of alcohol and spraying several times so that the alcohol passes through both the tube and the nozzle. Residual water in the tube would dilute the contents and could be a source of microbial contamination.
PET softens when heated and loses its shape. The contents should therefore be filled once cooled, never hot, and the bottle should not be left in direct sunlight or near a heat source. Aqueous products in this packaging need a preservative. The sprayer does limit contact of the contents with fingers, but air enters the bottle with every press.
The sprayer combines plastic and aluminium parts, so do not expose it to aggressive chemicals or cleaning solutions. With ordinary cosmetic toners and sprays this is not usually a problem; with a non-standard recipe, test the behaviour of the parts on a trial unit.
You can reuse the bottle – after it is emptied, simply rinse it and disinfect it again. When changing the contents, spray clean water through the sprayer thoroughly and then alcohol, to remove residues of the previous fragrance or active ingredients. The PET bottle belongs in plastic recycling; the sprayer is made up of several materials, which limits its recyclability.
You will find other closures with the same neck type, as well as ready-made combinations of this bottle with other closures, in the Handymade range. With your own combination, check the sealing and dispensing with your specific formulation.
