Product description
A white 100 ml PET bottle and a black lotion pump under a smoky overcap make a ready-to-use packaging set for face and body creams, milks, lighter emulsions and thicker gels. The contents are dispensed by pressing the pump head, without unscrewing anything and without scooping with your fingers. This keeps more impurities out of the product, and each press delivers a similar dose. The opaque white bottle limits the amount of light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate with emulsions containing vegetable oils and light-sensitive active ingredients. The set is intended for cosmetic products. The material of both the bottle and the pump is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.
A volume of 100 ml corresponds to a common pack size for a face cream or hand cream, or to a travel size of body milk. PET is lightweight and does not break when dropped, so products packed in it are easy to carry in a bag and to send by post.
What the set is suitable for
- Face and body creams – the main purpose of the pump; medium-thick emulsions pass through the dip tube smoothly.
- Body and cleansing milks – thinner textures are dispensed easily. The dose is small, so expect several presses when applying to the whole body.
- Gel creams and thicker serums – these work as long as they do not contain larger particles (scrub grains, pieces of wax) that would clog the dip tube or the valve.
How the lotion pump with smoky overcap works
The pump has a dip tube that reaches almost to the bottom of the bottle, so most of the contents can be used up without tilting. After the first filling, press the pump head several times without dispensing until the dip tube fills and the product starts to come out. The smoky overcap fits over the pump head, protects it from dust and prevents accidental pressing during transport. The dark, clear plastic does not hide the shape of the pump head.
One dose is approximately 0.14 ml. With a face cream, this corresponds to one or two presses per application; with a body milk, more presses are used. With every press, the pump draws air into the bottle. The packaging is therefore not an airless system, and the contents are in contact with air during use, as with any standard pump.
Before packing a whole batch, fill one unit, pump it several times and leave it for a day. This lets you check whether your consistency passes through the dip tube smoothly, whether the pump drips after use and whether the overcap fits on without resistance.
Volume and filling
The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is always larger. The difference provides room for the dip tube and the pump thread, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes, for example in a car or a parcel in summer. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle will overflow through the neck when the pump is screwed in, or the contents will get into the thread, where they are difficult to clean.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. It is advisable to pump the alcohol through the pump and then pump it empty, so that no liquid remains in the dip tube that could end up in the first dose of the product.
PET and PP withstand common emulsions, vegetable oils and water-based formulations. For recipes with a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend testing how the packaging behaves with your specific formulation over time. The plastic must not be exposed to aggressive chemicals.
The bottle and the pump are made of plastic, so do not fill them with a hot emulsion. Let the product cool to room temperature, and only then transfer or pour it into the bottle and screw on the pump.
The set can be reused. After it is emptied, the bottle is washed and disinfected in the same way as before the first filling. The pump is flushed with warm water containing a small amount of washing-up liquid, then with clean water and alcohol. When you change the product, it is simpler to replace the pump, as residues of the old emulsion in the dip tube and the valve are harder to remove than from the bottle. The neck finish of the bottle is stated in the parameters. You can find other closures with the same neck and further ready-made combinations in the Handymade range; with your own combination, we recommend testing the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
The bottle is made of PET and the pump of PP, so they should be separated and sorted as plastic before recycling.
