Product description

Amber glass medicine bottle, square, nasal sprayer, 45 ml

Set of an amber glass medicine bottle with a square body and a white sprayer with a long nozzle shaped for nasal application. The bottle with a nominal volume of 45 ml and the pump with an 18/410 neck finish fit each other, so there is no need to look anything up or test the seal on an empty bottle. Amber glass dampens light and helps protect contents that react to it, for example hydrosols or aqueous solutions of active ingredients.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. It is not approved for contact with food, so it is not suitable for homemade syrups, infusions or other food liquids.

How the set dispenses

When pressed, the sprayer releases approximately 0.12 ml of liquid as a fine mist. Such a small dose suits cases where only a little product is to be applied to a small area and where an ordinary sprayer would deliver too much. The long, narrow nozzle is designed for nasal application, and it also allows precise aiming at small areas of skin.

The pump draws the contents up through a tube immersed in the bottle. On first use you need to press it several times until the system primes and starts spraying evenly.

The sprayer is built for watery, thin liquids. With thicker solutions, contents containing oil or particles, the mist forms less well and the nozzle may clog. We therefore recommend checking how your particular formulation behaves on a single piece before filling larger quantities.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 45 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck and is higher. The difference provides a reserve for the tube and the body of the pump, which are immersed in the contents once screwed on, and for the expansion of the liquid with temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle only up to the nominal volume.

What the set is suited for

  • Hydrosols and floral waters – watery, they spray well, and in a small volume they are used up quickly, before they lose freshness.
  • Aqueous solutions of active ingredients – thin serums and toners without thickeners, where a precise small dose is valued.
  • Refreshing and soothing sprays for small areas – the mist is easy to control and the product is not wasted.
  • Samples and test batches – at a volume of 45 ml you can try out a formulation and its behaviour in the sprayer without using up a large amount of raw materials.

Thicker emulsions, gels and pure oils do not belong in this set. The pump either fails to draw them up or does not turn them into a mist.

Good to know when filling

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump with clean water or ethanol and spray it several times, so that no cleaning liquid remains in the tube. Residual moisture in the bottle would dilute the contents and burden the preservative system.

The square body does not roll on the work table and is easy to hold even with a wet hand. Glass, however, does not tolerate impact and sudden temperature changes well, so do not pour hot solutions into a cold bottle. Let the contents cool down first.

Water-based preparations without a preservative do not keep for long, even in a sprayer. The tube and the inside of the pump stay moist with the contents, so the preservative system must be dealt with in the same way as for any other water-based product.

After thorough cleaning, the bottle can be used repeatedly. The pump is harder to clean, and when changing the contents it is safer to replace it with a new one, so that residues of the previous contents do not get into the new batch. Glass belongs in glass recycling; the sprayer is a combination of several plastics and a steel spring, so separate it from the bottle before recycling.

You can find closures for an 18 mm neck and other ready-made combinations for this medicine bottle in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your particular formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass lets through significantly less light than clear glass and thus reduces its effect on the contents. It is therefore suitable for hydrosols, antioxidant solutions and other ingredients that lose effectiveness or change colour in light. However, the bottle only protects against light; it does not replace preservation or an antioxidant in the formulation.
How much liquid does the 18/410 nasal sprayer release per press?
One full press releases approximately 0.12 ml. The value applies to thin, watery liquids; with thicker contents the dose may be smaller or uneven. When calculating the number of applications per filling, also allow for the fact that a small part of the contents remains in the tube and at the bottom of the bottle.
Why is the 45 ml bottle not filled to the brim?
Once the pump is screwed on, the tube and the lower part of the pump are immersed in the contents and the level rises. The nominal volume of 45 ml corresponds to safe filling; the brimful volume is larger and is given in the parameters. The reserve also absorbs the expansion of the contents during warmer storage, so that nothing leaks around the thread. If the bottle were filled to the brim, part of the contents would be pushed out and the thread would get dirty.
Can oil or an oil serum be filled into a nasal sprayer?
It is not recommended. The sprayer produces a mist from thin water-based liquids. Oil is thicker, it leaves the nozzle more as a stream or drops, and over time it clogs it. For oil serums, a bottle with a dropper or a pump is more suitable; with this set, stick to hydrosols and aqueous solutions.
Can I use the set for a homemade saline solution or a herbal infusion for drinking?
No, the set is not approved for contact with food, neither the bottle nor the pump. It is declared only for cosmetic products. Therefore, do not fill food liquids, including infusions and syrups, into this set, and choose packaging that has a certificate for contact with food.
How do I clean the glass medicine bottle and the sprayer before reuse?
Wash the bottle in warm water with detergent, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry upside down. Rinse the pump with clean water or ethanol and spray it several times to empty the tube. If the previous contents differed in composition or scent, it is better to replace the pump, as residues inside are hard to remove.
