Product description
A ready-made packaging and closure set for cosmetic sprays: a matte amber glass medicine bottle with a nominal volume of 30 ml and a fitted black and gold fine mist sprayer with a smoky overcap. Amber glass lets through less light than clear glass, and the matte surface scatters it further, so light-sensitive contents keep their colour and fragrance for longer. Thirty millilitres is used up within a few weeks, so the set suits facial toners, hydrosols, refreshing face sprays and smaller batches of eau de parfum. The sprayer disperses a thin liquid into fine droplets and limits contact between the contents and your fingers, which lowers the risk of contamination in water-based formulations.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. It is not intended for food: neither the bottle nor the sprayer has a food-contact certificate.
What the set is suited for
- Facial toners and hydrosols – the sprayer applies them evenly over the face without cotton pads, and the dark glass slows the fading of colour and fragrance.
- Eau de parfum and alcohol-based body sprays – glass does not react with alcohol, and the small dose from a single press lets you apply perfume sparingly.
- Hair and refreshing sprays – light water-based or water-alcohol blends with a solubilised vegetable or essential oil.
- Samples and travel packs – 30 ml is enough for a trial batch, for testing a new formulation with customers, or for packing into a handbag.
Thicker products do not belong in this set. The sprayer does not disperse cream emulsions, pure vegetable oils or gels; the nozzle clogs and the dip tube draws poorly. For oils and serums, choose the same medicine bottle with a dropper or a pump.
Filling and volume
The nominal volume of 30 ml is the amount the medicine bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful capacity given in the parameters is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference is a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the sprayer, which push the level up when screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill only to the nominal volume, and for alcohol-based sprays a few millilitres less, so that nothing leaks through the thread once the sprayer is fitted.
Before the first filling, wash the bottle with warm water, rinse it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Spray clean water through the sprayer several times and then spray it dry, so that any residues are pushed out of the dip tube.
After filling, tighten the sprayer firmly and pump it a few times until the dip tube fills and an even mist starts to come out. The first presses are usually weaker until the pump is primed.
Good to know
The dip tube may be longer than the medicine bottle is deep. If it bends when screwed in, shorten it with a sharp knife using a diagonal cut so that it ends just above the bottom. A diagonal cut does not stick to the bottom, and the sprayer draws out almost all of the contents.
The sprayer is made of polypropylene, plastic and aluminium, and the smoky overcap is plastic and protects the nozzle from dust. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, citrus oils or solvents, we recommend checking after a few weeks that the plastic does not soften or turn cloudy and that the seal holds. It is also worth checking that the gold finish does not change on contact with the contents.
Water-based formulations need preserving. The sprayer limits direct contact with your fingers, but air is drawn into the bottle with every press. Toners and sprays without a preservative belong in this packaging only for a short time and in the fridge.
Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well. Let a hot water phase cool to at least lukewarm before filling, and do not put the bottle straight from the fridge under hot water.
Reuse is no problem as long as the thread is not damaged and the sprayer sprays evenly. The glass is washed and disinfected in the same way as before the first filling. After emptying, spray lukewarm water through the sprayer and then ethanol. If you change the fragrance, it is better to replace the sprayer with a new one, as perfume cannot be fully rinsed out of the dip tube and pump.
Closures: other closures, droppers or pumps with the same neck type from the Handymade range can also be fitted to the neck of the medicine bottle. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the closure with your specific formulation.
Recycling: the emptied and rinsed bottle belongs in glass recycling, while the sprayer consists of several materials and is disposed of separately from the glass.
