Product description

The amber plastic pharmaceutical bottle with fine mist sprayer, 10 ml is a small packaging solution for water-based and alcohol-based cosmetic products that you want to keep to hand in a handbag or while travelling. The set consists of an amber PET pharmaceutical bottle with a nominal volume of 10 ml and a fine mist sprayer with a glossy black and gold head and a smoky overcap. Amber plastic dampens light and helps protect contents that are sensitive to sunlight, such as hydrolates, toners with plant extracts or perfumed waters. PET is lightweight and does not break when dropped, so this format suits samples, travel sizes and test batches of your own formulations.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the sprayer does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic use.

How the set works

The sprayer screws onto the neck of the pharmaceutical bottle with an 18/415 neck finish and draws the contents up from the bottom through a dip tube. One press releases approximately 0.14 ml of product as a fine mist, so dispensing is economical and your fingers do not come into contact with the contents. The smoky overcap protects the button from being pressed accidentally in a bag, and the clear plastic still lets you see the sprayer head.

The PP head with an aluminium shell gives the small bottle an appearance that holds up well in gift sets and when selling perfume samples.

What it is suitable for

  • Hydrolates and facial toners – thin water-based products that the sprayer distributes evenly over the skin.
  • Perfumed waters and alcohol-based sprays – alcohol solutions have a low viscosity, and the sprayer disperses them into a fine mist.
  • Refreshing face and body sprays – water-based solutions with glycerine, aloe or hyaluronic acid in a low concentration.
  • Customer samples – 10 ml is enough to try a fragrance or a toner, and the bottle can be sent in an envelope.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the pharmaceutical bottle is designed for during normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is larger. The difference provides a reserve for the sprayer dip tube, which takes up part of the space once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. A product filled up to the neck will overflow when the sprayer is screwed on.

The sprayer dip tube is longer than the bottle, so trim it before first use so that it reaches the bottom. Then press the head several times without product until the tube fills and the mist comes out evenly. This also applies after a longer period of non-use.

Good to know

Before the first filling, rinse the pharmaceutical bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water would bring an unnecessary risk into an anhydrous or alcohol-based product.

Water-based products applied through a sprayer need a preservative just as in any other packaging. The sprayer does limit contact between the contents and your fingers, but the contents still come into contact with the air drawn back into the bottle.

For high concentrations of essential oils or aggressive solvents, we recommend testing the compatibility of the material on a single piece first, as some ingredients may cloud or soften the plastic over time. Do not fill the pharmaceutical bottle with hot contents; let the product cool down before filling.

The sprayer is not intended for thick oils, emulsions or products with suspended particles. With thicker products, dispensing becomes worse and the dip tube may clog. Test the flow of thicker contents beforehand on a small amount.

After thorough washing and disinfection, the set can be reused, ideally for the same type of product so that the fragrance of the previous contents is not carried over. Clean the sprayer dip tube by spraying clean water or alcohol through it. The PET pharmaceutical bottle goes into plastic recycling. The sprayer combines several materials and should be sorted according to the rules in your area.

If you would like to put together your own combination, you will find closures with the same neck type as well as ready-made sets in the Handymade range. For a custom combination, we recommend checking the tightness and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber plastic pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET dampens the passage of light and helps slow down changes in the fragrance and colour of light-sensitive products. For hydrolates, toners with plant extracts or perfumed waters, it is therefore more suitable than a clear bottle. Plastic does not guarantee complete protection from light, so store the packaging away from direct sunlight.
Can I put oil in the pharmaceutical bottle with sprayer?
The fine mist sprayer with a 0.14 ml dose is not designed for oils. Thin oils pass through it only with difficulty, and thicker oils and emulsions block the dispensing. A pharmaceutical bottle with a dropper is more suitable for oil serums. The sprayer works well with water-based and alcohol-based products with a low viscosity.
How much product fits into the 10 ml pharmaceutical bottle with sprayer?
Fill it up to the nominal volume, that is approximately 10 ml. The physical space up to the neck is larger, but part of it is taken up by the sprayer dip tube and part must remain free for the expansion of the contents. If you filled it to the brim, the product would overflow when the sprayer is screwed on.
Is the set suitable for alcohol-based perfumes?
Yes, alcohol solutions are among the products this set is intended for. For perfumes with a high proportion of essential oils or with special solvents, we recommend testing the compatibility of the plastic on a single piece before filling larger quantities.
How do I clean the pharmaceutical bottle and sprayer before reuse?
Wash both parts with warm water and a small amount of cleaning agent, spray clean water through the dip tube and finally disinfect everything with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. The packaging must be completely dry before the next filling. Perfume residues are harder to remove from plastic, so we recommend refilling with the same fragrance.
Is the set approved for contact with food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The pharmaceutical bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food, but the sprayer does not, so food use does not apply to the whole set.
