Product description
Glass bottle, vial, black spray pump, black cap, 50 ml
A ready-to-use set consisting of a brown glass bottle in a vial shape with a volume of 50 ml and a black plastic spray pump. Brown glass protects the contents from light and the spray pump dispenses it as a fine mist, making the set suitable for facial mists, tonics, hydrolats, hair and body sprays or skin refreshers. Both the bottle and the spray pump are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics and are supplied assembled, ready to fill.
Why choose this set
- Light protection – brown glass attenuates UV radiation and supports the stability of sensitive ingredients such as hydrolats, essential oils in alcohol solutions or vitamins in tonics. The contents are not exposed to light even when stored on a shelf by a window.
- Fine misting – the mechanism disperses a small dose into a mist. With facial and hair sprays this creates even coverage instead of a wet stream.
- Glass with no interaction with the contents – glass does not react with alcohol, essential oils or acidic tonics. It is also suitable for formulations that gradually stain or soften plastic bottles.
- Practical volume – 50 ml is travel-sized, handbag-friendly and suitable for samples. In home production it corresponds to one smaller batch of hydrolat tonic or facial mist.
What the set is suitable for
The spray pump works reliably with thin, watery liquids: hydrolats, floral waters, tonics with glycols and a low proportion of active ingredients, facial mists with solubilised essential oil, hair sprays based on water or alcohol, linen and fabric refreshers.
Vial is the name of a bottle shape with straight walls and a shoulder below the neck, not a designation for medicines. The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The glass bottle itself also holds a separate certification for direct contact with food. This assessment does not apply to the spray pump, so the set as a whole is not declared for food use.
The spray pump is designed for low-viscosity liquids. Pure vegetable oils, serums thickened with gums and emulsions either cannot be drawn up, or come out as a stream instead of a mist and the nozzle clogs. For such formulations, choose the same bottle with a dropper or a pump dispenser.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The packaging is labelled and filled according to this volume. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them provides a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the spray pump, which push some liquid upward when closing, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Filling is therefore done to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Otherwise the contents will overflow through the neck when the spray pump is screwed on. Both values are stated in the specifications.
The dip tube of the spray pump is longer than the height of the bottle. Before first filling, trim it with an angled cut so that its end reaches just to the bottom. The angled cut prevents the tube from suctioning against the bottom and allows almost the entire contents to be emptied.
What to know before filling
Before first use, we recommend washing, rinsing and disinfecting the glass bottle with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving it to dry completely upside down. The spray pump cannot be disassembled. Simply flush it through with clean alcohol and then several times with distilled water to leave no residue in the mechanism. After filling, the spray pump is primed by pressing it several times empty until the dip tube fills.
Water-based formulations (hydrolats, tonics, mists) must be preserved. Dark glass and the spray pump are no substitute for a preservative, although the closed system with the dip tube limits contact of the contents with fingers. After use, we recommend wiping the nozzle opening so that residues with glycerin or plant extracts do not dry on it. Over time they narrow the opening and change the shape of the mist.
The bottle can be used repeatedly. However, when changing the formulation, the spray pump should also be replaced, as residues of fragrance or alcohol cannot be thoroughly flushed out of the plastic mechanism. Glass does not tolerate sudden thermal shocks. A hot solution should not be poured into a cold bottle; fill only after it has cooled.
The straight part of the bottle body is used for the label. When sorting waste, glass goes into the glass bin and the spray pump into plastics, so separate the set before disposal.
The set consists of a bottle and a spray pump with an 18 mm neck. Other closures with the same neck type and further ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. When creating your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing and packaging behaviour with the specific formulation.
