Product description

The blue glass bottle with a white fine mist sprayer, 15 ml, is intended for liquid preparations applied as a spray: facial mists, hydrosols, toners or travel-size perfume sprays. Blue glass lets through less light than clear glass, so light-sensitive contents, for example a hydrosol with added essential oils or an aqueous solution of active ingredients, deteriorate less during normal use. The fine mist sprayer dispenses the contents in small amounts, so the preparation spreads evenly on the skin without unnecessary waste.

The set consists of a medicine bottle and a polypropylene fine mist sprayer with a dip tube. The tube draws the contents from the bottom, so almost the entire volume can be used up. One press releases approximately 0.13 ml, which for a full bottle corresponds to approximately 115 doses.

What it is used for

  • Facial and body mists – aqueous solutions with glycerine, hydrosols or water-soluble active ingredients. The small volume is suitable for samples and for travelling.
  • Hydrosols and toners – applied directly to the skin without touching it with your hands.
  • Perfume sprays and fragrance samples – alcohol-based compositions in a handbag-size volume.
  • Working solutions in the workshop – for example alcohol for spraying the surface of cold process soap or for disinfecting tools.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for in normal filling. The total brim volume is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them provides a reserve for the immersed part of the sprayer with its tube and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill up to the nominal volume, not up to the brim. An overfilled bottle overflows when the sprayer is screwed on, and residues of the contents remain on the thread.

After filling, prime the sprayer by pressing it several times until the tube draws up the contents and the first dose comes out in the full amount. Only then is the dosing even.

Good to know

Before the first filling, the bottle is washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. The sprayer only needs to be rinsed by pumping clean water through it and left to drain. For repeated use, proceed in the same way; however, when changing the contents from a fragranced preparation to an unscented one, the plastic may gradually take on the original fragrance. In that case we recommend a new sprayer. Do not fill the glass bottle with hot contents; leave the preparation to cool to room temperature.

The sprayer is designed for liquid aqueous and alcohol-based solutions. Oils, thick serums and emulsions are sprayed unevenly or the nozzle does not dispense at all. Undissolved particles and residues of plant material clog the nozzle, so we recommend filtering hydrosols and infusions before filling.

Concentrated essential oils and mixtures with a high proportion of alcohol or solvents can affect the plastic parts of the sprayer over the long term. We recommend checking suitability with such contents in advance on a smaller amount.

A declaration of suitability for use with cosmetic products is available for the plastic sprayer. The bottle can also be combined with other closures for the same neck type from the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dosing with the specific formulation.

At the end of the product’s life, separate the two parts: the glass goes into glass recycling and the polypropylene sprayer into plastics recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does a blue glass bottle with a fine mist sprayer protect the contents from light?
Partially. Blue glass lets through less light than clear glass, and the contents deteriorate less during normal use. However, it does not provide complete darkness, so preparations with essential oils, vitamins or plant extracts should be kept away from direct sunlight. Blue glass also hides any discolouration or cloudiness of the contents, so checking the appearance is harder than with a clear bottle.
How full should I fill a 15 ml glass bottle with a fine mist sprayer?
Fill up to the nominal volume of 15 ml, not up to the brim. The total brim volume is larger, and the difference provides a reserve for the sprayer tube and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the bottle is filled up to the neck, the contents overflow when the sprayer is screwed on and soil the thread.
Can I apply an oil or an oil serum through the fine mist sprayer?
No, the sprayer is intended for liquid aqueous and alcohol-based solutions. Oils and thick serums are sprayed unevenly, come out in drops or the nozzle does not dispense at all. For oil preparations in this volume, a bottle with a dropper or a pump for the same neck type is suitable; you can find both in the Handymade range.
Is the glass bottle with a fine mist sprayer suitable for an alcohol-based perfume spray?
Yes, alcohol-based perfume compositions and fragrance samples are among the typical uses of this set. With a high proportion of alcohol and concentrated fragrance substances, we recommend checking the behaviour of the sprayer on a smaller amount, because the plastic parts may react to such a mixture over the long term. After filling, a few presses to prime the sprayer are enough for even dosing.
How do I clean the glass bottle with a fine mist sprayer before reuse?
Wash the bottle with warm water, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Rinse the sprayer by pumping warm water through it until clean water comes out, and leave it to drain. Residues of fragrance in the plastic cannot be removed completely, so when changing from a fragranced preparation to an unscented one, a new sprayer is better.
