Product description

The glossy black glass bottle with a white and gold pump keeps its contents in the dark and dispenses them in doses, without contact with your fingers. The opaque black glass blocks light from reaching the contents, which you will appreciate with oil serums, facial oils and light emulsions containing ingredients that lose stability faster in light. The set with a nominal volume of 50 ml suits facial serum, liquid cream, facial oil or hair and beard oil, that is, products applied in small doses.

The pump in a glossy white and gold finish complements the glossy black bottle, so the set looks finished without any further adjustment. It serves home production as well as smaller brands that need closed packaging for liquid to medium-thick formulations.

What makes this set stand out

  • Protection from light – opaque glass prevents light from reaching the contents. For recipes with vegetable oils, vitamins or essential oils, this is the main reason to choose dark packaging.
  • Hygienic dispensing – the pump dispenses the contents without opening the bottle and without touching the neck. With everyday use, the formulation is less exposed to air and microbial contamination.
  • Measured amount – one press releases approximately 0.14 ml, which for a serum or liquid cream corresponds to a usual single dose for the face.
  • Suitability for cosmetics – both the bottle and the pump are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and therefore so is the whole set.

What the set is suitable for

It works best with liquid and medium-thick products that the pump can draw up and dispense without problems: facial serums, facial and body oils, oil blends for hair and beard, light and medium-thick emulsions, liquid creams or make-up bases. With thick creams and balms, the pump does not draw up the contents, or dispenses them unevenly. For such textures, a jar or a wide-neck bottle is more suitable.

The bottle has a separate certificate for direct contact with food. The pump does not have such a certificate, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics and we do not recommend it for food purposes.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. Brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between the two values forms a reserve for the tube and the pump mechanism. For this reason, fill only up to the nominal volume. A bottle filled to the brim overflows when the pump is fitted, and the contents leak under the thread.

Before fitting the pump, wipe the neck of the bottle dry. Oil residue on the thread weakens the seal and over time soils the outside of the pump’s gold ring.

Good to know when working with the packaging

Before first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with alcohol or isopropyl alcohol and let them dry completely. Residual water in an oil serum creates an environment for microorganisms. Disinfect the pump on the inside as well: rinse it with alcohol and press it several times so that the alcohol passes through the whole mechanism, then let it dry.

A new pump needs several presses before it draws up the contents from the bottom of the bottle and pushes the air out of the tube. The first doses are often smaller or empty, which is not a defect of the closure.

Let a hot, freshly made emulsion cool to approximately room temperature before filling. An emulsion filled while warm settles as it cools in the closed bottle, and the first priming of the pump is often more difficult.

The pump is only suitable for products that flow. Thick creams, butters or firmer gels will not pass through it, or it will become blocked after several uses. Check the suitability of a particular recipe on a small amount before you fill a whole batch.

The bottle withstands repeated use. After emptying, wash and disinfect it, and you can fill it again. Rinse the pump thoroughly after use with oils, as dried oil residue in the mechanism shortens its life. Glass belongs in glass recycling. The pump combines plastic and aluminium, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.

The bottle has a neck with the thread stated in the parameters. You will find closures with the same neck type, as well as other ready-made bottle and closure combinations, in the Handymade range. With your own combination, check the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your particular formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, black opaque glass does not let light reach the contents. For oils, serums with vitamins and products with essential oils, this is an advantage, because light speeds up oxidation and loss of effectiveness. The disadvantage is that you cannot see how much is left. With a serum in a pump bottle, you can easily check this by weighing the bottle.
How much serum or cream fits into a 50 ml bottle with a pump?
Fill the bottle with 50 ml, which is its nominal volume. Physically, more fits into it, but the upper part serves as a reserve for the tube and the pump mechanism. If you fill to the brim, the contents overflow after the pump is fitted or leak into the thread.
Is the bottle and pump set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The glass bottle itself has a certificate for direct contact with food, but the pump does not have this certificate. For home-made oils, syrups or infusions, therefore, use a bottle with a separate closure that has a food-contact certificate.
How do I clean the pump before reuse?
Rinse the pump with warm water, then with alcohol or isopropyl alcohol, and press it several times so that the whole inner mechanism is cleaned. After disinfection, let all parts dry thoroughly. Wash and disinfect the bottle, and let it dry as well. Pumps used with thick or dried-on contents are harder to clean and over time lose their smooth action, so expect to replace them occasionally.
Can I put thick cream in the glass bottle with a pump?
No, the pump will not draw up a thick cream, butter or firmer gels, and the mechanism will become blocked. The set is intended for liquid and medium-thick products such as serums, oils, liquid creams and light emulsions. For thick textures, choose a jar or a wide-neck bottle.
