Product description

A clear, tall plastic bottle with a black flip top cap is a ready-to-use set for liquid and semi-thick cosmetic products dispensed by tilting or squeezing the bottle. The PET bottle is lightweight and shatter-resistant, making it suitable for the bathroom, shower, and travel. Through the transparent wall you can see the colour of the product and how much is left.

The flip top cap opens with one hand and stays on the bottle, so it cannot be misplaced during use. The 100 ml capacity is practical for smaller batches and trial runs of a new formulation.

What the set is suitable for

  • Shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps – products used with wet hands; after dispensing, the cap simply snaps shut.
  • Body lotions and lighter emulsions – must be fluid enough to flow towards the neck. Thick creams and butters are better suited to a jar.
  • Conditioners and more fluid hair masks – squeezing the bottle gives good dose control even with a thicker consistency.
  • Body and massage oils – the opening in the cap releases oil in a thin stream, preventing it from spreading across the palm.
  • Travel sizes and samples – lightweight plastic with no risk of breakage and a smaller volume for testing the product.

How the flip top dispenses

The cap has a small dispensing opening sealed by a flip lid. Thin, water-based liquids flow through it quickly when the bottle is tilted. Gels and emulsions require squeezing the bottle. Very thick products are difficult to dispense through the opening and the last residue tends to remain on the walls.

It is worth testing the viscosity of a new formulation directly in this bottle. If the product does not flow towards the cap within a few seconds of inverting the bottle, it is too thick for a flip top and a pump or jar will be more suitable.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed to hold during normal filling. Total brimful volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference serves as headspace for the cap and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the product may leak after the cap is closed or when heated. When filling by weight, account for the density of the product. Exact values are in the specifications.

What is worth knowing

Preparation before first filling. Wash both the bottle and the cap with lukewarm water and a cleaning agent, then rinse thoroughly. Afterwards disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Water residue inside the bottle increases the risk of microbial contamination of the product.

PET does not tolerate high temperatures. Hot filling, boiling or oven sterilisation may deform the bottle. Fill the product only after it has cooled.

Light and contents. The transparent wall does not protect the contents from light. Store light-sensitive products away from direct sunlight or consider a coloured packaging for them.

Material resistance. Undiluted essential oils, high proportions of fragrance ingredients and strong solvents may degrade the plastic over time. We recommend verifying the behaviour of a specific formulation by a trial fill over several weeks.

Intended use and closures. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity is included with the product. Closures with the same neck type (stated in the specifications) and further ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. For a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation. Dimensions needed for label design are in the specifications.

Frequently asked questions

Is a plastic bottle with a flip top cap suitable for shampoo and shower gel?
Yes, a plastic bottle with a flip top cap is suitable for shampoos and shower gels. The cap can be opened with one wet hand, the product is dispensed by squeezing the bottle, and PET will not shatter if dropped in the shower. The product must have a liquid to medium-thick consistency. Very thick gels are difficult to dispense through the opening and tend to remain on the walls.
Does a clear PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, a clear PET bottle does not protect the contents from light. It is suitable for products that are not light-sensitive, or for products stored in a cabinet or a box. Formulations containing easily oxidising vegetable oils, natural colorants or light-sensitive active ingredients may change colour and scent when exposed to sunlight. A coloured packaging is more appropriate for these.
Can a PET bottle be filled with a hot product?
No, a PET bottle should not be filled with a hot product. The material softens at higher temperatures and the bottle may deform. Allow emulsions and gels prepared by hot process to cool before filling. For the same reason, the bottle should not be boiled or oven-sterilised; isopropyl alcohol or ethanol is sufficient for disinfection.
Can a plastic bottle with a flip top cap be reused?
Yes, a plastic bottle with a flip top cap can be reused after thorough cleaning. When washing, also rinse the dispensing opening and the lid, where product residue tends to accumulate. Then disinfect both the bottle and the cap with alcohol and leave them to dry completely. If the wall is scratched, cloudy, or retains the scent of a previous product, use a new bottle.
Is a PET bottle suitable for products containing essential oils or alcohol?
A PET bottle with a flip top cap is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; however, the behaviour of a specific formulation containing essential oils or alcohol must be verified. Caution is warranted with undiluted essential oils, concentrated fragrance blends and strong solvents, which may degrade or cloud the plastic over time. Before larger-scale production, we recommend filling a test bottle and monitoring its shape, clarity and cap seal over several weeks.
