Product description

The plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a black cap is packaging for samples, travel sizes and trial quantities of oils and serums. The 10 ml volume corresponds to a sample for a few days, the amber PET reduces light exposure, and the plastic does not break when dropped, which also makes it suitable for sending to customers. It is supplied as a ready-made set with the cap, so you only need to wash and fill it. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What it is suitable for

The narrow neck of the pharmaceutical bottle is designed for liquid and slightly viscous contents. Thick creams are difficult to fill and remove through it, and jars are more suitable for those.

  • Samples of serums and facial oils – ten millilitres are enough to try a product for several days without buying the full-size pack.
  • Travel sizes – the small volume and unbreakable material suit cabin luggage as well as a cosmetics bag.
  • Testing formulations – when fine-tuning a new oil or serum, set aside a small amount of each version and observe how it behaves over the following weeks.
  • Diluted blends for direct use – massage or facial oils with a lower proportion of essential oils, in an amount that is used up before it starts to oxidise.

Cap and dispensing

The plain cap is made of polypropylene (PP) and has a liner made of foamed polyethylene (EPE). Once tightened, the liner sits against the neck and keeps the seal tight even with oil-based contents. The contents are dispensed by tilting the bottle, so the drops are not measured. If you need to dispense a serum or a concentrated blend more precisely, the bottle can be fitted with a dropper with the same neck type, which is stated in the parameters. Closures with this neck and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for under normal filling, and it is filled up to this level. The physical volume up to the neck is larger. The difference is a reserve for the cap or dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. A bottle filled to the brim overflows when closed, and the contents stay in the thread.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, rinse them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. No residual water should get into oil-based contents.

The bottle is intended for common cosmetic bases, that is vegetable oils, water-based and alcohol-based toners, and emulsions. With concentrated essential oils, fragrance compositions and solvents, the plastic may become cloudy, soften or warp over time. Do not expose the bottle to aggressive chemicals.

We do not recommend filling undiluted essential oils and fragrance concentrates into a PET pharmaceutical bottle without a prior test. Fill one bottle, leave it to stand for several weeks and observe the walls and the cap. If the contents are to be stored long term, choose glass.

Hot filling is not suitable. Fill oils and emulsions only after they have cooled to room temperature, otherwise the wall of the bottle may shrink or ripple.

The bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The cap does not carry such a declaration, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. If you need packaging for homemade oils or infusions, combine the bottle with a closure of food-grade quality.

The bottle can be reused after washing, especially with the same type of contents. When changing the product, bear in mind that strongly scented oils cannot be washed out of the plastic completely. For sorting, the bottle belongs to PET (code 1) and the cap to PP, so separate them before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber plastic 10 ml bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET reduces the passage of light and slows the light-induced oxidation of oils and active ingredients. It does not provide complete darkness, however, so filled bottles should still be stored out of direct sunlight. Treat the dark packaging as basic protection; proper storage of the contents is still necessary.
Is the plastic pharmaceutical bottle set with a black cap suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is declared only for contact with cosmetics. The bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact, but the cap does not. For food use, you need to choose a food-grade closure for the bottle that has its own declaration.
Can essential oil or a fragrance composition be filled into a PET pharmaceutical bottle?
Diluted blends, yes; undiluted concentrates only after you have tested them yourself. Pure essential oils and fragrance compositions may cloud or soften PET over time, and the PP cap may warp. With a small proportion of essential oils in a vegetable oil or an alcohol base, problems do not normally appear. For storing concentrates, glass is safer.
Is the 10 ml plastic bottle filled to the brim?
No, it is filled up to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not up to the neck. The space above this level is a reserve for the cap or dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. A bottle filled to the brim overflows when closed, and the contents stay in the thread, where they become sticky and attract impurities.
Can the plastic pharmaceutical bottle be washed and used again?
Yes, both the bottle and the cap can be washed and reused. Wash them in warm water with a small amount of detergent, rinse them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Reuse works best with the same type of contents. Strongly scented oils cannot be removed from the plastic completely and carry their scent over into the next filling.
